You may also want to install a raised wooden bamboo floor to keep the plug below your feet...

If I was going to take the time and effort to replace the floor drain , I would not replace it with the same type
( Thin Plastic ) I would look for a SS drain , no more work to install and probably only slightly more expensive

Your local hardware store (Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, etc.) probably has Test-Tite expending plugs too. Just measure the ID of the drain you want to plug before you go. These too have the foot damaging stud and wing nut but are readily available.

The only issue I see with the plugs are that they are metal and the drain is plastic, thus over tightening may cause the plastic to crack....

They are actually rubber. Only the top and bottom are metal. You can feel when they are tight.

I found this thread with a search, because I wanted a spare basket. I could see trouble in future: either lose it, or break it.

I maybe found the exact replacement based upon rubicon's post, so I ordered one, and will try to report back after it arrives.

Please let us know how it fits. One reviewer had bought both the LaSalle and JR Products version and said they are identical. So this is another potential option:

yes, I saw that about the 2 different ones being the same, I think was Amazon review. I bought the cheaper one, saved not much lols.

also, maybe those that are changing out their shower drains could make available their drain baskets they no longer need? actually, compared to my 2004 Casita shower drain, this little basket in my 2018 Escape 21 is pure genius. I have no plans to change it out. cheers
