Battery box drainage
Re: 2018 19'. Cleaned corrosion from one of the batteries (6v #1) then hosed off. I noted that the battery box filled but didn't drain. Should I remove battery & drill a drain hole or two?
If I remove battery, please advise as to how to disconnect safely. I have solar. This is a lead acid interstate 6v battery. Luckily the other battery didn't need the baking soda treatment.
Thank you for your help

Danged if you do, danged if you don't
The box keeps water out, and in. I'd sponge off your cleaning water and leave it as is. Any hole would need to be in the right spot for ALL the water to drain if you drilled a hole. That usually doesn't happen.
By design, no water is going to enter on it's own. Best to keep it that way. I've had massive ant incursions into my homemade box from an opening that I've since protected. You don't need another hole, IMHO.
Edit:
Upon further reflection, and re-reading, your battery box can have a hole drilled in it, if it is inside the Escape front storage box, or mounted on the rear bumper. Although it is a PITA, best to remove the battery and clean outside of the battery containers. No holes needed then.
And top off those cells of both batteries with some distilled water, as long as you're mucking about in there.

Thanks for your reply. The battery box filled completely full. I, unfortunately do not have the front storage box. I ended up using a 60 cc bulb syringe from my nursing days to manually get as much out as I could. Interesting that the boxes on my 17b do drain after I rinse w garden hose. When I googled this, other rv sites indicated drilling a hole or two was prudent & would do no harm. As long as the holes were not over metal.

I agree. A turkey baster would also remove the liquid. I've ruined a few with my projects.
A pencil tip solder iron can be an effective way to melt a drain hole (or multiple holes) in your plastic battery box exactly where you want it, without touching any metal.

Why do they call it a turkey baster? I've never basted any turkeys with one.
By all means put a drain hole in the box. Unless a box has a good sealing gasket wind driven rain will find it's way in on the highway.

Here's why they call it, sort of
baste 2 (bāst)
tr.v. bast·ed, bast·ing, bastes
To moisten (meat, for example) periodically with a liquid, such as melted butter or a sauce, especially while cooking.
[Middle English basten.]
bast′er n.

Actually I help my wife do that at turkey time. But she'd kill me if I took her "good" turkey baster into the shop.

I’ve since acquired several of my own basters. And if she ever pilfers one of mine to slather a turkey…..well then!
