Bauer Lock Issue

Today I went down to the trailer to do a very small bit of work, only to find that I was locked out. The key for my Bauer lock (original to the trailer) will only go in about halfway. There doesn't appear to be any ice in the lock, so I am doubtful that waiting for warmer weather is going to help. By the way, the lock in question is not the dead-bolt, but rather the regular latch lock.

As I looked through the previous lock threads on the forum, most of the issues seemed to relate to a Fastec recall a few years ago. So a few questions:

1) Has anybody seen a problem like this before, and if so, what was your solution?
2) My recollection is that the only solution is to remove the door from the hinges. Has anybody found a better way? I guess this would be the time to put on those new stainless steel hinges I bought last summer.
3) Any consensus on the best replacement lock? I don't think I am interested in one of the fancy keypad replacements, but I could be persuaded if there is a way in after the batteries fail or when the weather is cold.
