I continue to struggle posting links; thanks. When I click on the link icon in the message menu (after copying the link I want o paste), should I delete the default "http" before pasting?

Yes, I just highlight the http in the box before pasting the link. You are most definitely not the first one to do this.

I just copy from the address header and paste into the text. I don't use that 'insert link' tool at all.

Looks like the bear in question was dining on seed & suet from a bird feeder.
I had to take our feeder down due to a troublesome bear who thought I had put the feeder out for him.
There are a lot of bears in the Silver Valley area, I came across a mother and two cubs mid-summer and have run into several while mountain biking.

Yep, bear scat.... An old joke.... If break it apart with a stick and it is mostly berries, it is likely a black bear. If you find bear bells and it smells like pepper (bear spray), it would likely be a grizzly.....

I''ve tried that before, but some URL's are awfully long. Once pasted, can they be renamed to something more concise like they can in MS Word?

Misery (or in my case, ignorance) loves company I suppose

I don't know and I'll never claim to know what I'm doing, but often the link appears renamed automatically.
Canadian dollar rises as markets stabilize - Business - CBC News
It was a lot of words and numbers, but as soon as I posted it, it became the link above. It was: tp://www.cbc.ca/news/business/canadian-dollar-rises-as-markets-stabilize-1.3214502
it was http://, but I stripped the 'ht' to prevent it from automatically becoming a link.

Same here - what you paste in replaces what was highlighted.

That's fine, as long as you want the link to display as whatever the web page was titled (often a reasonable choice), because that's what the forum software does for you automatically.

The forum software looks up the page title ("Canadian dollar rises as markets stabilize - Business - CBC News") and displays it.
To show something without it being interpreted as a command such as a link, use the Code block tool (looks like a number sign)
