Can’t turn on furnace
Hi,
I just got my Escape 5.0 last week and took it out for the first camping trip. I couldn’t figure out how to turn the furnace on, the Dometic control doesn’t seem to be working. Has anyone encountered similar problem or know how to fix this?
Thanks!
Jason

If that is like the older ones, there is an on switch which is really stiff but has to be in the on position (left) for the furnace to work.

yeah, I can see the on/off switch on top, and the temp setting control on the bottom. if you slowly move the temp lever from all the way to the left towards the right, there should be a point at which you hear a distinct TING! sound, and if you move it back, an unTING! at a point just before where it TING!'d on.
make sure you can light a stove top burner, run that on high for a minute or so to flush any bad gas out of the line.
when the thermostat control lever is above that point where it goes TING!, and the top switch is ON, the furnace fan should start in a couple seconds, then 10 or 20 seconds later, you should hear the furnace starter going (faintly) tick!tick! fffwump. and shortly after that warm air should come out.
If the fan runs a minute or so then shuts off, that means it wasn't getting hot, or the sail switch never sensed the air flow. I had to take mine apart and remove some polyester lint strands that were keeping the sail flap from moving.

We had a similar problem with our brand new 19’. I tried everything and finally emailed Escape because in the manual it shows a little on/off toggle that (on ours) you access outside with the cover off. It is on the side of the furnace hidden under wiring but is actually there. I found the manual picture unhelpful but Dustin emailed me a photo of the switch with someone pointing at it. Bingo, it worked. Was your trailer shipped to you? Ours was and therefore everything was off; battery, furnace, etc.
Good luck,
Catherine

Moving the top tiny switch from right to middle/left position fixed it! I have looked at it many many times but didn’t see an “on” position mark or “on” switch, and didn’t dare to push the switch hard enough. Thanks everyone!
