No idea which thermostat you are referring to.

If I were going to use something like this I would mount it in the overhead cabinet close to the fridge bulkhead. The temperature probe is on 6’ wire so can be positioned about midway down the cabin.

This thermostat would require rewiring to replace the Escape Dometic system. The Dometic thermostat connection only has 3 wires - a +12V, -12V, and a "control". The thermostat control connection goes to a module that then feeds the AC & furnace. The module receives a signal from the thermostat that determines whether to run the AC or furnace (or, if not in the Auto mode, both).

Changing the wiring in my 21 would be "interesting"...

In my 5.0 that I just brought home, this touch thermostat is the only thing that is really bugging me, I have patiently tried many different things (including different "touches") and in the end I keep just removing the cover to adjust. After reading through this thread, I'm thinking I'll go analog...is there any reason why this one wouldn't work? Or for that matter, a similar analog one from my local hardware store that has independent heat/cool modes?

That's interesting . where is the module typically located ?

Drop your inside AC vent cover and u will find it there at the intake side. Mine was just hanging loose. I secured it so it would be banging around while traveling. I too would love to rewire the AC/ heating system to have a better thermostat.

i have that exact thermostat, which I replaced the original mechanical one with. this way when I go to bed, I can set it for 60F and get exactly the temp I want.

No idea. I've never looked for it, however I've been told that it exists & that is why most thermostats can't be substituted for the original Domestic. I guess I believe this since there is only one "control" wire controlling both the furnace & AC.

When doing a search for "Single Zone Domestic Capacitive Touch Thermostat", I find an inexpensive replacement, and a "kit" which includes a "box".

This makes me think my analog replacement idea may not work, although they do have the same # and type of controls. I can't find the definitive answer online...I'm going to ask both Escape and Dometic and see what they say!

We had the same issue with ours in 2019. I called dometic customer service & they sent a new face plate. They initially tried to give me a bs story about user error however this dang thing was running itself up and down without touching it at all. I would remove the faceplate & gently touch the contacts to operate until the new one came. Haven’t had a issue since replacing it.

I’ve left the cover off n just touch the pins. Tried 3 different covers n had the same thing happen

Does the heater run on a/c when plugged into shore power?

The furnace runs on 12V & propane. If you are plugged into a pedestal, the converter supplies the 12V. If not, it comes from the battery.

Some versions of the air conditioner have heat strips built in, which run on 120V AC...

My question regarding a/c power was because on my most recent camping trip (boondocking) my heater quit working at night (temps to 27 f.), after it had worked in the evening before going to bed. Temps got to 37 f. In trailer for 2 nights��. When I got home and plugged the trailer to power, the heater worked ? Gas was on to heater both times.

If your battery voltage is too low, the furnace fan spins too slowly, and the furnace will shut down due to low an air flow. There is a device called a sail switch in the air flow that doesn't close unless there is enough air movement.

Since the furnace is one of the highest current draws, it doesn't take all that much overnight running to take the battery down enough that the furnace won't run. When plugging into AC, the converter both recharges the battery & provides 12V for the furnace & other appliances & lights.

Thank you for answering. Not sure if this issue matches this thread, but I have also had trouble with the capacitive touch thermostat. As to the battery draw down for the heater, batt did not go below 13.28. Just had a Battleborn 100ah Lifepo4 battery installed a couple weeks ago.
