Carbon monoxide alarm

My carbon monoxide alarm is acting up again . The trailer is a 2016 so it probably needs changing out. I just don’t have the time to do it right now. Can I disconnect it with out screwing up any other systems that maybe on the same line? I have a battery operated one to stick up in its place until this late fall when things calm down and I can take the time to replace it. Thanks for any replies.

John,

If yours is like the one in our trailer, it is a simple CO/smoke battery operated detector. Twist it off of the mount, remove the mount and get a new one at Lowes or HD. No wiring required.

No, ours is a hard wired one. It sits down next to the floor by our fridge. I just wondered if anything else was on the same electrical circuit. Most likely not, but I just thought I’d ask before disconnecting.

OK - that is not your CO detector; that is a propane detector. It is indeed 12 VDC wired into your trailer. I note you have a 2016 unit. I assume you have the same one we recently replaced, an Atwood branded unit. The problem is that Atwood apparently does not market propane detectors anymore. We replaced it with a MTI unit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BFU274G

Unfortunately, the size is different, so we had cut the cabinet wider and make a frame to fill out cut-out for the thinner unit.

edit - per your question on other items on the same circuit, probably yes. On the propane detector circuit (labeled "lights)" were lights throughout the trailer, propane detector, Maxx Fan, thermostat, and awning

Thanks for your reply MVA. I knew it was a propane detector, I don’t know why I called it a co2 detector. Anyways I ordered a new one that you suggested and I guess I’ll just have to find the time to replace it. Any suggestions or pictures would be helpful. Anyways thank you.

Pic of propane detector

Here you go. Note the frame around the detector to cover the existing larger vertical cutout. We used a scrape piece from a previous mod, but any thin (1/8"-1/4") material would work.
