Dickinson Stove Question

I am planning to install the Dickinson. My wife likes the fold up cover of the existing burner (but nothing else about it), in that it gives her a level surface when the stove is not in use.

I was thinking there maybe some sort of clever hinge that could enable to wooden insert supplied with the Dickinson to be connected to the bench top and fold up against the back wall.

Has anyone done this. Or what do you do with the insert when using the stove.

All ideas welcome.

I'm not sure what the burner configuration of the Dickerson cooktop is, but I found this Camco wooden cover adds almost 4 sq ft to the counter space & provides a much better surface than the folding metal top. It comes with "feet" that can be configured to sit over the burner grates to keep it in place when traveling.

We have the Dickinson stove and are extremely happy with it.
We just take the wooden insert off and put it on top of the bed. Then simply put it back on the stove when we are finished cooking. This is not a hassle for us.

We just stand it up behind the stove as I placed ours close to the front of the counter or set it on the bed. As far forward as mine is in the countertop, I think hinging it to lean against the back wall would be doable but awkward.

x2 You can easily prop it up behind the stove. Acts as a backsplash of sorts in that position too.

Thanks for the input everyone. That was my own personal thought too, but the other occupant wants something hinged. Maybe she will change her mind, she has done before!!!

We often use the wooden insert as a cutting board. It is easy to put it elsewhere when not in use.
