Digital thermostat problem

New 17b, with AC, no heat strip.

Furnace initially came on and stayed on until temp was 5-6 degrees above that which was set. So I got out the thermostat manual and reprogrammed the differential from 2 degrees to 1. That fixed the staying on problem but created a new one.

Now when the furnace comes on the AC unit (I think) starts clicking like it is trying to ignite something. The fan is set on auto so it should not be trying to start the fan (and doesn’t.) But it either clicks at startup on the furnace Or after the furnace has run for awhile. I raised the AC set temp to above the furnace temp set so that it wouldn’t try to come on and it started clicking only when it was hotter. It did this both with the AC breaker off and with it on.

The manual gives me no information on this. I have not checked the AC manual yet- AC should be off.

Any ideas?

The problem is that d2 makes it cycle not 2 degrees but about 5. It just keeps heating and heating. No clicks with d2. In d1 the furnace works perfectly but I get the clicks. But changing back to d2 just would recreate the original problem of too wide cycles.

One person said the problem of overcycling didn’t recur when he did it so I’ll try. The other said he had to replace the thermostat. Hope the former works!

Though I do not like this thermostat any better than the manual one. Not easy to turn on and off or change temps without looking at it And if I do that without turning the lights on I get a red afterimage that is annoying. I wish it had a heat/cool setting so it was one or the other instead of having to cycle through to get to heat.

Understand your dilemma. Ours shuts down within 2 degrees. Wonder if it’s your thermostat. We had an issue with our original thermostat and called ETI. They gave me a new one free. I’d contact them and see if they’ll send you a new one.

I’m testing it again after initializing and then going back to d2. If it still doesn’t work right I’ll contact them.

I had problems with our Dometic digital stat as well when I switched to D2. We're back to D1 with the wild temperature swings.

Mine is wild swings on D2 and clicking on D1. Have not retried it yet but soon, fog just rolled in!

Initializing, switching to d1 had the clicks, but then initializing again and back to d2 eliminated the wild swings. Have to try d1 again to see if the clicks are gone as I'd prefer that.

Our digital thermostat failed . Called Dometic and they sent me a replacement N/C
From my conversation with the Dometic service tech , failure of the thermostat is a common problem .
