There is a current recall of Escape trailers for the 3 burner Dometic Stove with Oven.

Do you have any firsthand knowledge or evidence that the Bigfoot recall is for an installed appliance that itself wasn't under recall?

The way to get the Suburban SDS2 cooktop recalled is for everyone who has had problems with it to report it to the NHTSA.

To file a complaint on the stove you need your trailer VIN, the make and model of the stove Suburban SDS2,. and preferably the stove serial number too.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National
Highway Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act
RE: Dometic S31, R1731, AND R2131 Series COOKING STOVES; Recall – 20E071
Dear Valued Customer:
Dometic Corporation has decided that a defect which is related to motor vehicle safety exists on the S31,
R1731, AND R2131 Series COOKING STOVES that were manufactured between May of 2018 and July 9,
2020.
The Problem:
The user of a recreational vehicle or marine vessel can become aware of the potential defect when, after
some period of usage, begins to smell gas near the stove when it is not in operation; if the user or other
servicer then attempts to tighten the bolts that hold the valves under the stove burners, the tightening action
can cause irreversible damage to the o-ring seal at the valve(s), resulting in a continuous gas leak. Such
leak can result in a fire.
Affected Units:
The potentially affected Cooking Stoves have the following model series numbers
S31
with suffixes S31 with suffixes BMFBO, BPFBO, SPCMO, SPFMO
R1731
with suffixes BBPFBO, BBPCMO, BBPFBR, BBPFMO, BDICMO, BSPCMO, BSPCMR, BSPFBO,
BSPFBR, BSPFMO, BSPFMR, SLICMO, SSPCMO, SSPFBO, SSPFBR, SSPFMO, AND SSPFMR
R2131
with suffixes BBPFBO, BBPCMO, BSPCBO, BSPCMO, BSPFBO, BSPFMO, BSPFMR, SSPCMO,
SSPFMO,
The potentially affected Cooking Stoves have serial number ranges as follows:
the S31 Cooking Stoves that are in the population of the potentially defective units are between
SU02100001 – SU0210100; SU93600001 – SU93600300; and SU82200001 – SU83900100
the R1731 and R2131 Cooking Stoves that are in the population of the potentially defective units are
between 81897193 through 02799381.
IF YOU OWN ONE OF THE UNITS SHOWN ABOVE AND YOU SMELL GAS, BECAUSE GAS CAN LEAK
INTO THE RV THROUGH A DAMAGED STOVE VALVE, YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY SHUT THE GAS
OFF AT THE RV LP TANK REGULATOR. THEREAFTER, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE LP GAS WITHIN
THE RV UNTIL THE STOVE VALVE IS REPAIRED AND DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE COOKING
STOVE. OPEN ALL WINDOWS AND DOORS TO DISSIPATE GAS FUMES. REMOVE ALL IGNITION
SOURCES FROM THE AREA INSIDE THE RV UNTIL ALL TRACES OF GAS SMELL ARE GONE. DO
NOT ATTEMPT TO USE ANY GAS APPLIANCE IN THE RV INCLUDING THE COOKING STOVE UNTIL
THE REMEDY IS INSTALLED ON YOUR S31, R1731, OR R2131 COOKING STOVE.

Yes, Escape sent out notices to all affected owners. But, it never hurts to double check.

When the stove manufacturer recalls the stove either voluntarily or ordered by the NHTSA, Escape is required to attempt to notify all affected owners.

That's why if people want Escape to notify owners about the Suburban SDS2, it is important to report their issues to the NHTSA.

The Dometic stove recall does not apply to your trailer, because your trailer doesn't have that model of stove, or at least it doesn't have one made in the relevant period (after your trailer was built). In the NHTSA database it is associated only with 2020 model year Escape trailers.

December 22, 2020 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V809000
Stove Saddle Valves may Leak Gas
A gas leak can increase the risk of a fire.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V809000

Manufacturer Escape Trailer

Components EQUIPMENT

Potential Number of Units Affected 294

Summary

Escape Trailer is recalling certain 2020 19, 21C, 21NE and 5.0 RV trailers equipped with Dometic 3 burner cooking stoves. The stove's saddle valve securing bolt may be overtightened, possibly damaging the O-ring seal and causing a continuous gas leak.

Remedy

Escape Trailer will notify owners, instructing them to visit a Dometic repair center that will install a remedy kit of gaskets, washers, thread locker bolts, and two round orange labels, free of charge. The recall began March 17, 2021. Owners may contact Escape Trailer customer service at 1-604-703-1650. Escape Trailer's number for this recall is E012020.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

MAKE MODEL YEAR

ESCAPE RV ESCAPE 2020
Because it is associated with only 2020 Escapes, but all models, ETI should have sent notices to the 294 owners of all 2020 trailers.

You can see any recall, investigation, or complaint if you have the NHTSA ID code (the "Campaign number" in this case) if you enter that in the search from the NHTSA Recalls page. From the same page you can also search for all everything related to a year, make, or model of vehicle (yes, trailers are vehicles).

This post was moved from the Suburban SDS2 thread to this one because the Dometic stove was mentioned... but it is entirely about the Suburban stove and the handling of complaints and recalls for it. Anyone want to move it back... or just delete it and this one because they contribute nothing to discussion of the Dometic recall and were not intended to discuss that?
