The door latch on our E19 has a small problem. The deadbolt will not actuate. Removed the Torques screws today to have a look. That did not really help me so I was going to remove the whole latch assembly. Hmm. apparently I have to remove the 4 black posts that have small internal springs to remove the assembly. The question is how do you remove them to get the latch out? Or maybe you don't remove them.. if so then how does the latch come out?
On the 50 mile drive to a sleep study last night.. the very obvious answer hit me. After removing the 4 main screws on inside back plate.. the whole lock assembly pushes out from the front side.
Then the discovery as what is causing the problem. A small thin metal ring that is captured between the thick metal cover plate and the tumbler has two raised bumps pressed into the flat ring. One was cracked right at the apex of a bump. Hard to see.. but a close look at the parts as I tried to lock the dead bolt revealed the crack.
Definitely not visible.. but definitely the problem. Guess I am now buying a whole new lock assembly. I will post a photo later when I finally get some restful sleep!
Hi,
I purchased a remote lock that works with your cell phone or with the key.
I still have the original lock that I could sell or I could sell you the remote one whichever you would like. Let me know James.
Thanks for the great offer. However I received an exact replacement 2 days ago from Bauer / AP Products. If I did not have it already I would have been happy to pursue that transaction with you!
