E19 queen bed removal trick

By myself it is impossible to move the queen mattress so i may work under the plywood base. Is there a trick to managing this unruly beast?

We took our 19 mattress out and put it back in for several years. There is no trick, just hard work and strength. When you get it on edge and on the floor inside the Escape, you have to be able to compress both sides with one hand on each side of the mattress lift and walk backwards towards the door. It ain’t easy. I have known a couple guys who had moving slings who liked them for unwieldy moving tasks but I never got them.

If my memory serves me, I would flip it up on one side and lean against the exterior wall, still on the bed base. I had enough access to below then. If you have 4 hands then you could remove entirely, but solo, this may help.

I just bent it in half just enough to slide up into the dining area. I think a foam mattress might bend easier with less chance of spring damage. I’ve seen pictures on the forum of some using a ratchet strap to help fold the mattress, but that seems like over bending to me; although, I’ve never tried it.

I saw that post as well. Never tried it but I've worked around the mattress several times. Sometimes doing as Jim suggested if that gets it out of the way for the work you want to do and sometimes folding it and wrestling it out of position and out of the trailer.

Wrestling is the key word.

You have to get at least one LONG ratchet tie down strap under it. Climb in & lift push one side up & fold over ratching as you get it. It's HARD. Mine was too hard killed my back & hip in 2 nights, plus the weight!. I've gone to a foam. (not memory foam....it get hard when it's cold)

Actually easily that I had expected. If you kneel on the mattress and pull up on the p/s rear corner high enough to step over the mattress and onto the plywood on that corner, then continue to push that corner up to the center and front. The mattress will come out easily. Little marder to get back. Took two of us to bend and push into position.

We also used the ratchet strap method and it worked great. You still have to wrestle with the mattress to move it to the other end of the trailer though. :-/

This sounds like a perfect contest for an Escape Rally Triple Play:

1. Torque Your Nuts
2. Guess the Tongue Weight
3. Tag Team Mattress Wrestling

The total combined score, winner take all!
