Echo brake controller

I bought an Echo Brake Controller. It has no wiring and plugs into the 7 pin between the TV and trailer. It is controlled via bluetooth from a smartphone. Problem is, the brake is constantly activated, just a little, anytime it is plugged in. Every once in a while, I can get it to no activate the brake, but almost always has a small percentage of pressure.
We have a Volvo XC90 TV and a 2019 19'Escape.
Anyone else deal with this? Echo does not seem to have a tech support phone number.

You probably have to calibrate your phone's motion sensor in the app.

Was your tow vehicle level when you first paired your phone with the brake controller?

Just FYI the Echo uses a "Triple-axis, motion-sensing accelerometer for highly responsive, smooth stops" that's integral with its hardware component, totally independent of and non-reliant on whatever motion sensors are in the smartphone running the app. This is what allows the unit to function, albeit without manual over-ride capability, even if the phone or it's connection fails for whatever reason (as long as the Echo unit is properly seated in a functioning 7-pin socket).
