FIXED: slow leak from water heater

Hi guys,

Just want to share this.

This week we happened to find a slow leak from water heater in our 2017 trailer underneath the bed. It's been 4 months since we've been using our trailer and the first time we noticed a leak. (We were lucky finding out in time since we happened to get something underneath the bed.)

I found the source of the leak and Reace instructed me to turn off city water line, open a faucet (to release pressure on the water line), and tighten a black plastic nut on the cold water inlet leading into the water heater. On the 2nd try, I was able to hand-tighten it about 15 degrees and the leak stopped.

I'm sharing because I think this has something to do with us camping at the highest elevation we've been in these months (around 6150 ft ). The leak started during our first shower at this elevation. So you may want to double-check for the same type of leak if you have the same equipment and start camping at higher elevations.

Also, I just want to thank all the folks on this forum for helping me purchase a TT that is backed by such good service!! Examples: Calling up and getting the head honcho to help resolve issues, head honcho drives to your TT location to replace water lines as soon as they realized there was a mfg problem, etc.

I doubt the leak had anything to do with elevation. Probably was just not hand tightened quite enough enough initially. This is a good thing to mention though, as these hand tightened plastic connections should be periodically checked, even before they begin to leak.vDO NOT over tighten by using a wrench though, as it is easy to strip the threads this way.

I found I had to tighten a threaded connection on my city water inlet that had a wee leak right from the get go.

Well, don't hook up to the wee line next time.....

Sorry to hear about the leak, but glad it was a quick fix. Thanks for posting. I will give my connections a quick check.
