For those who were at Osoyoos this year
and saw the demo models, do the power awnings have a manual over ride. Thanks

I believe that all models from all manufacturers have a manual retract in case of power loss or motor failure.

I had purchased a 2012 Lance 1575 trailer with a power slide that malfunctioned within 30 days. I was at home, luckily as there was way you can tow it home "broke". I'm a little leery of
electronic motors that can wreck a vacation. Good to hear the awning should not be an issue.

I discussed the no-legs awning with Reace at the rally; he advised me that they had just brought in an all-manual model (with legs) as an alternative and were evaluating that as an option.
Many of us who spent our working years in "high tech" know better than to put 100% faith in it.

I'd be more worried about busted gearing from wind damage should the awning not retract for any reason when that nasty gust of wind comes along.

Hopefully the auto retract kicks in before the worst of the gusts hit.

This seems like quite the jump: all the way from the power version of the 9500 Case Awning, to a manually operated version of a different model. It's hard to imagine how this would fit with the body shape which was designed specifically to hold the 9500 with no vertical legs.
At least the vertical wall would make the legs easier to deal with than with the classic shape.

Good point, but power-operated awnings with wind sensors and automatic retraction are not new, so at least it's not bleeding-edge stuff.

There are lots of similar awnings that would work with the moulded relief. If the vertical legs folds into the case, they would work fine.

Thanks - that makes sense for a manual awning. I was picturing legs which stay vertical and fold against the trailer wall.
It does sound like a lot of hassle to avoid a problem which may not exist; reminds me of setting up an old tent trailer.

More questions about the awning. So is there a choice of manual or automatic on the 2017>? the problem I have seen on the two Escapes I have seen is that the awning itself when rolled up is exposed to the elements and all the road dust and dirt. Both of the awning I saw were in 2015s and they both had icky black mold on them. Is this being addressed?

I'm 99.9999% sure: You either get the automatic awning, or you can delete the awning.(this has been covered in other threads)

I'm 99.9999% sure: The 2017 Escape has a new, never been used on an Escape before power awning..... and it is somewhat more sealed than units used on Escapes before, when closed.
Hope this helps.

This is an owner maintenance issue and has nothing to do with the make or model of the awning (although less exposure to the elements will help somewhat).

For those who were at Osoyoos this year
The new power awning actually cleans the fabric when it's retracted, by passing it between little brushes in the case. Of course, that's not a substitute for normal cleaning from time to time to prevent mold.

I just Googled "awning maintenance" on the site and came up with this jewel: http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f7...nance-182.html
I really had to laugh at Post #1 by gbaglo. My, how things have changed and how much people expect from ETI now...

Cpaharley, I completely disagree! Last summer, I was driving the windy narrow road to Moraine Lake near Banff when I saw what appeared to be a very wide rv coming downhill towards me at a pretty high rate of speed. I slowed down and pulled over as far as I could... Yup - a rental Class C with the slide still out! 😳😱
