Fridge Inefficient on Gas

My fridge in our five year old 19 appeared to stop working when we got above 5K feet of altitude in Colorado a couple weeks ago. We tried adjusting the gas pressure valve thinking the altitude pressure was affecting the fridge workings. We have since returned it to it's original setting.

Here at home, I tested the fridge on gas and found it cooled down to 53 degrees F, about 15 degrees down from outside temperature. Then, I switched the fridge over to house electric and it cooled down to 44 degrees F.

Since it cools like it's supposed to on house power, something is inhibiting gas cooling efficiency. Or, is this normal? Does it cool better on electric? Could the time spent in high altitude have messed up some setting?

Oh boy, this isn't a "in 10 words or less" situation. Actually the fridge issue on gas has been discussed at length many, many times. Searching fridge threads will shed light on the various issues folks have had.

First, if you're not familiar with cleaning the orofice I'd recommend that as the first step. Also cleaning the flue above where the flame is.

Lots of info in previous threads and on YouTube. If you haven't had this problem before you're luckier than most folks.

Yes, I agree, a 5 year old refer that has not be serviced or cleaned at least once may well be clogged after that much use. I'd at least have it serviced when you get your bearings serviced which could be every other year.
