Fridge Repair

There is a reason you're not supposed to travel with heavy items in shelves on the door. I had two liters of milk and two of OJ and I forget what else on the bottom shelf. Got home to find the part that holds the shelf in place had snapped off.
I epoxied it back together. I looked at my epoxy repair, figured I should try to reinforce it, found a piece of aluminum corner bead in my shop that would work, I even dry-fitted it and then epoxied that in place. I think this repair is going to be way stronger than the original.

Could you not just use the existing shelf as a mould to cast a new one out of iron. That would surely handle the jostling on the road.

Good thing to consider though, as I know we often have lots of weight on the door shelves.

Here's pix of the fridge shelf installed. The aluminum "angle iron?" "corner bead?" came from Rona. I'm pleased.
