Front storage tank retexture

Besides the specialty paint, how did ETI get the granular texture on the tub?

Years ago popcorn ceilings were popular./ There was a machine that sprayed paint that had particles to give the "3D" look. That is what reminds me of the exterior of the stock box.

That’s bedliner spray for pickup trucks. Specialty trailer accessory shops spray it on. It sticks like Crazy and is tough.

Ummm- just re-posted this today on rusty hinges thead. This is the product Escape uses. You don't spray it on- you roll it on with specialty roller the company in FLA sells quite reasonably.

Sorry Ross, I wasn’t reading the other thread and thought someone described the application to me as a spray on product at one time. We used it in truck brads but it was applied by the time we got the new trucks.

When ordering from the Vendor Grizzly Grip, aka Midwestchemicals.com in Orlando, FLA one can choose between Coarse or Fine. Escape probably uses Coarse and I ordered Fine for the re-coat, the color is Snow White.

Also- from their email to me re: roller use between coats:
You want to lightly scuff up the surface with a 220 grit sand paper then do a solvent wipe down with acetone

You can do whats ever easier for you in terms of a pan or pouring on top, either way is fine

ALWAYS apply two coats waiting until the first coat is touch dry (usually two hours) before applying second coat

Yes I would suggest cutting the roller in half, you can also put it in a baggie and put it in the fridge, this usually keeps the roller good for a few hours

I also used Dawn to wash & then used acetone to remove all of it's traces& bought their 9" roller and cut it in half.

Sort of, but in reality quite different. I used a SprayTex gun to do my ceilings many moons ago. Over the years it fell out of favor to the point where I scraped it off by hand. Not all that difficult but drywall that was to be spraytexed only had two coats of mud, not three so a little surface prep is required before painting.

Before the type of products that are now available we used a product that was added to gelcoat and gave a random texture. For things like the interior of a dingy I'd spray the interior coat, say white. Then I'd add and additive to some black gelcoat and spray. The modified gelcoat would spray out like something Spiderman would use. Long filmy sprider webs of gelcoat. Gave a random surface that hid a ton of sins.

I contemplated using the current tongue box product on my rear bumper box but it's remained in pristine condition during it's first season of use. But it's nice to know there's a product available to put a bit of texture on it if it gets a few minor dings and scratches.
