According to Dave at ETI, a trailer manufactured without the exterior access panel cannot be retrofitted to add the access panel. I was also told this by Reace and Tammy at last years rally when I asked.

Dave stated the furnace even though is the same model, the ones that come with the bezel and panel are configured a bit different such as the exhaust flue/pipe on mine (no exterior panel) has a dog leg in it where the furnace that comes with the exterior panel is a straight pipe. In order to retrofit you would have to buy the furnace that comes with the bezel and panel, but more to it then that.

Also, to install the exterior bezel you would need to reinforce the fiberglass wall to accept the screws to hold the bezel in place. Trailers manufactured prior to the outside access panels do not have the reinforcement that would be needed.

Though I would love to have the exterior panel, this would be way to much trouble and expense to try and retrofit something ETI says cannot be done.
Ah, I have been told before that something I wanted couldn't be done. Oh well, did it anyway. It all depends on your skill level and how much effort you want to put into it.

What Escape should have said is for most people, it can't be done. Never underestimate a determined DIYer.

But isn't that what people do when they add an exterior baggage door... an owner mod? Seems like plenty of owners have done that....

Certainly I understand all because ETI says it cannot be done does not actually mean it cannot be done. Several years back I replaced my dead generator on a 91 Honda ST1100 with an alternator from a Gold Wing. Honda said it cannot be done. Many older ST's out there running Gold Wing Alternators.

The point here is you have to replace the furnace with one that comes with the bezel and panel. You cannot just buy the bezel and exterior panel. The whole project does not make sense unless you are trying to replace a furnace no longer operating.

I guess someone else can be the guinea pig to try and retrofit, but won't be me.

After watching the online videos I had a suspicion that the different exhaust pipes could be an issue which is why I suggested an altogether separate door and leaving the vent alone.

What is your thought on this? This gives you the needed access to the circuit board and sail switch and would likely prevent you from pulling the furnace.

Looks very simple to pull the furnace if needed, probably much less work than cutting in an access for something that may never have an issue.
