Sean, Remember that the trailer batteries power the emergency breakaway brakes so if you disconnect the batteries at their terminals, you won't have the emergency breakaway brakes. You can check to see if the brakes are wired to continue working if the battery switch is turned off. I think they are.

That's a good point- all the more reason powering the camera with the TV beffudles me. I guess if it was connected to your reverse lights they could turn on automatically- but I'd think alot of users would just leave it on since it acts as a rear view mirror of sorts.

So the wire down the drivers side rear corner pad ended up being the captains reading light in that corner. Found out the hard way after cutting it. Impatience not always a strength of mine. So I wanted to post for anyone else, that after some testing, I determined the camera junctions on my trailer at the following points near my power converter / battery charger (rear drivers side dinette). See pic below

I did not purchase the Escape offered rearview camera or the wiring option. I have been considering a Haloview BT7 and possibly mounting the camera to the rear exterior LED light and using the power there. Any thoughts from anyone?

Thanks for posting your experience.

If I interpret correctly, you did not locate a connection between the camera wiring and an "extension" behind the padded corner thing as described and illustrated in post #64, correct?

Instead, you located where the "extension" tied into your tail-lamp harness, correct?

If so, were the "extension" wires black and red? Were the connectors tying them to the tail-light harness yellow (post #64)? What color was the tail-light wire? Where was the camera "extension" grounded?

I'm basically wondering how hard it was to spot the camera power-feed connection.

I still need to add the capacitor/diode thingy before covering our camper for the rest of winter.

Thanks,

Mike

I'm still looking for a way to secure the 7-pin connector. I'm going to clean the contacts and spread the blades on the truck connector but I would feel better if there was a locking mechanism to keep the housings engaged.

Last fall, the cord had fallen "outside" the tailgate and was obviously putting a load on the connector.

I may open a separate thread.
Please open a separate thread- after I get done replacing mine I'd like to make sure it stays connected next time!!

This is what it looked like on mine, the camera wiring is encased by the black plastic line. Then I hooked it to a drop line along with a on/off switch all located in the upper cabinet.
I just cut and capped off the original Escape red and black wiring you’re looking at.
I did the same to the one I added on the front.

Ooshkaboo - Thank you for describing the camera leads being inside a black sleeve. This was a breakthrough for me, as I had two sets of red & black wires routed under the bench from behind the passenger-side rear corner pad. Once I had your sleeve guidance, it was easy to determine which were for the camera.

After exiting the sleeve, the camera wires were connected to a red/black pair using blue crimp connectors.

I think the other red and black pair were feeding a speaker ??

The red/black pair feeding the camera were "bonded" together (zip cord). I traced it under the bench and installed the inexpensive filter from Amazon that was linked earlier in this thread.

I put a couple tie bands around it all but the filter is light and I didn't think it needed any other strain relief.

I probably won't know if this fixes my intermittent failure until next year but I'm happy I was able to follow all the guidance in this thread and get it done.

Mike
