Fuzzy Furrion Backup camera

Our 2020 5.0TA has the factory installed Furrion backup camera. Worked fine the first two seasons and now the third season (this spring) when hooked up and on the picture is cloudy, you can’t see anything! I contacted Furrion and they said nothing they can do, 1 year warranty. Has anyone else had issues with theirs? I saw in YouTube where someone showed the same issue and they wet sanded the camera lens and brought theirs back to life. I just find it hard to believe that will fix mine but before I go wet sanding my camera lens and possibly wrecking it, any other ideas? Anyone else have this happen?

Ok folks! Here is an update for you….as mentioned our Furrion back-up camera was extremely hazy and you could not see anything out of it. This appears to be a problem with Furrion.

The good news is that I was able to fix it on the cheap with a little elbow grease. It’s easy to remove the camera with a small Phillips screwdriver, 4 very small screws. Pull the camera head off the mount and unplug its connector. Grab a bucket of water and some waterproof sandpaper of the 1500 grit. Soak the paper for a minute or so and start scrubbing the camera lens! Don’t be shy and use some force if needed. Just rub in a circular motion. After 20-30 seconds of this go plug it in to your truck (take just the camera head with you as that’s all that is needed (your power cord has the side connector on it allowing you to do this, no need to hook it back up to the trailer and hook your truck up to the 7-pin connector). Plug it in and be amazed! Nice clear picture!! And if your not happy with the results, sand it some more..test it, and repeat till happy….a new camera head costs $235 plus shipping from Furrion so this is well worth it. I was skeptical and afraid I would wreck my lens by using sand paper on it but 1500 grit is a super fine polishing paper that removes swirls, oxidation, possible UV damage, whatever…..safe travels to all and post up if you tried it and your results! I’m super stoked it worked!

We had the same problem and solved it with a bottle of rain-x headlight restorer (polishing compound) that was sitting around. Used a q-tip with a drop of water and a tiny dab of compound and rubbed with circular motion for around 30-45 seconds, then evaluated with a jeweler's loupe. Repeat until suitably clear.

I prefer the polishing compound approach even though it takes a bit longer as the rate of material removal is pretty minimal.

The real issue from our point of view is that leaving our 2020 E17b covered (with the ETI supplied cover) when not in use appears to deposit/grow stuff on the camera lens, requiring periodic cleaning with something abrasive.

Has anyone come up with a method for "inerting" the Furrion camera lens so that it doesn't get fouled? I don't see a way to attach a waterproof lens cap. I've considered coating the lens with something that doesn't "eat" plastic (like silicone grease), but there is a significant cleanup effort before each use with this approach, so not too excited...

Maybe just a small piece of 3M blue tape will be sufficient?

four years in, we do not have that problem. OTOH, perhaps I need to clean it to make sure that it is not heading in the same direction. Up to now, if I kept it clean, it was excellent.

The camera is not super high resolution anyway, and the settings need to be tweaked to get the best out of it, but we are very glad to have it.

Do you use a trailer cover between trips? That is what seems to be causing us issues.

No cover here….but started using blue painters tape over the lens to protect from rain and UV rays….time will tell if it works….
