Generator to operate the Coleman 13,500 BTU AC
I am looking for suggestions on what generator to buy. The Coleman 13,500 BTU AC has a soft start. What's a good generator and powerful enough to run this unit? Oh, and anyone got insight on the Champion dual fuel generators? Or any others I should consider? I know Honda are good. Thanks in advance.

We have a Dual Fuel Furman WH3200ie that runs our ac without a soft start. We like it.

Not the most portable, however, our Honda EU3000is handles all the electrical demands our our E19 with Dometic A/C very well. Very quiet, reliable, and the electric start is a plus. Already had this unit or we would have gone soft start and a 2200 Honda.

another good choice, if you can find it, is the Yamaha EF2400iS... These are about as quiet as they get, and should provide sufficient power to run an Escape's A/C as long as you don't try to run the microwave at the same time

And the only part thats Yamaha is the motor itself, a chinese-made Yamaha design made under license.

Pulled the trigger on the Honda 2200i with 30 amp plug. Some others at half the price probably would have been good, but in the end got the reliable and longlasting Honda, or that's what I'm hoping for.

I have a Sportsman gas/propane 2200 watt generator that will run the 12K BTU stock Escape AC. The good - I will run it on propane, at least a 300'. The bad - it is tough to start on propane. It doesn't have a prime that lets the gas to the carburetor so it takes 20 or so pulls to start. Not much fun on a hot day when you need the AC.
I only carry it if I need to use the AC. I carry a 900/700 watt propane only Ryobi generator that has a prime button (it is designed to run on 1 pound disposable tanks but an adapter lets it run on a 20 pounder). Only takes 1-2 pulls to start. It won't run the AC, but I carry it as a way to get around a week of clouds (I have lots of solar). It will power my 35 amp lithium converter. Anything larger would stall the generator, Ie the stock 55 amp converter supplied with the Escape wouldn't work with it, at least on lithium batteries.

Honda as a brand is a great choice. I’m sure you realize you will only have 15A from the 30A plug on the Companion model unless you parallel a second generator. Also if you plan to use the 30A trailer cord it has a TT-30R plug whereas the generator has a L5-30P twist lock. You’ll still need an adapter like this:

Sold my only generator when I sold my first SOB trailer, a Lance 1880. Have not missed it for 10 years now with camping......

Have some generators. Usually don’t travel with one. My Honda EU2000i from 2002 is old, but has light use. Unlike most, it’s not been very reliable. The electronics in it have been troublesome.
