Myron, I think that you should follow up with the link in post #15.

They sell replacement windows and complete windows. I'd at least get a quote on those options before having a custom piece of glass made.

I can't see how anything from Escape could be a better deal. They're a Canadian company buying and importing a US product. You probably wouldn't come out ahead of buying directly from the Parkin co. who appear to be vendors of Hehr products.

I may well end up with Parkin Associates. Just spent a horrible time trying to open up the frame at that seam. Until you try doing that you will have no idea how super great the Hehr window is constructed. What a bear! I finally decided to quit while I was still ahead.

Will take the thing into my glass guy in town tomorrow for an estimate. Meanwhile, will wait for Escape response to my query. Probably will also contact Parkin for an estimate. May the best offer win!

That'll cover the bases and prove informative for readers as well as you.

Nope, not gonna guess on the outcome, just gonna patiently await the findings

I broke my medicine cabinet mirror very early in ownership. I grabbed it by the lower corner when opening it and it put enough stress on it to break!
Took the door to a glass shop. They recommended a mirror with a reinforced back (no idea what they called it). It wasn't cheap, but the medicine cabinet door is very sturdy now.

Well of course, you know what your mother would say. When in doubt, did you…
” ...go on line?” Heard it a hundred thousand times.

Sunday Aug 9. Sent an email to Escape Industries, and to Parkin. Parkin Accessories has been the wholesale distributor for Hehr windows and replacement parts since 1985. So they said. Faxed their order form to them. Then found Dwight’s Glass … the biggest glass shop in Abq. Took my Hehr into Dwight’s for an estimate the next day.

Monday Aug 10. Dwight’s will do the job, that is, create/insert replacement tempered glass, and have it ready in 2-plus weeks. Repair estimate: $125 plus tax. 50% deposit.

Tuesday Aug. 11. Received Email of assistance from… the Escape Parts and Service Specialist, “…Hehr has been bought out by Lippert and are no longer producing those windows, however if you supply me with the size of the window I will be able to assist you with a possible replacement through Lippert. I do not have that Hehr number on file so I will use measurements to ensure we get the proper one….”
I responded by sending them the size.

Then I went to the Lippert (in Indiana) website and looked up trailer windows. Guess what? No listing for the Hehr brand. In fact, no listing for double glazed insulated trailer windows there at all.

Pass the popcorn.

Ah, just got a reply from Escape:
Hi Myron,
The model number for window from Lippert is V000506802 and the inner trim ring model V000505802 and can be order directly from Lippert at 1-574-537-8900. Shipping will be cheaper directly from them, also we do not stock extra’s of these windows and order as needed.
Sincerely,
Dustin Dionne, Parts and Service Specialist

OK, I'm a little confused. Have you heard back from Parkin?

No word from Parkin yet, Ron. That last blue reply was from Escape.

Just FYI, note this page on the Lippert Website

If you click that "Order Replacement Windows" button you are taken to a website ("Duncan by Lippert", whatever that means?) where dual-pane slider replacement windows can be ordered (with an 'instant online pricing' utility).

I've no affiliation or experience with that vendor, no idea if what they sell is an "exact match" for the OE Hehr slider on an Escape .... just offering FYI as another possible resource.

Still following with interest

Absolutely, this could happen to any of us. There have been several times I've had to drive by crews doing roadside work and I've held my breath that they wouldn't blast out a rock and whack me.

Wow, Centex, thanks for the link. I just went to that Duncan by Lippert replacement pricing site and typed in the info they need to give me an instant price for a replacement window. $386.88 excluding shipping and tax!

That's not gonna happen.

No worries, at least you've checked that option OFF the list on an informed basis

Summary up to this point if I’m ‘tracking’ correctly:
  • ETI suggests sources other than them (shipping costs to USA and they don’t maintain a replacement inventory)
  • “Duncan by Lippert” complete replacement window unit: $386.88 + shipping + tax (ouch!)
  • Albuquerque glass shop replacement of damaged pane in ex-situ unit: $125 + tax (that with 'proper tamper & tint glass' per OE)
  • Parkin Accessories complete replacement window unit: ? pending quote ?
All above require DIY (or additional cost 3rd party) R&R of the window unit in the trailer; that DIY R&R is not terribly difficult for those so-inclined to the project.

This won't be my first DIY window transaction so the fix will not be strange. Just ordered 30 feet of Butyl tape, $13 on eBay.

Yep, that happened to our fairly new trailer, back when we used a lawn mower and back when we actually had some grass and decent ground before crows, raccoons, moles and what not attacked all that green stuff and now it's just cruddy looking and the soil is so soft you sink down. Now we use a weed whacker and we're (meaning me) really careful around the trailer. Or Dirk does it when I've taken the trailer out somewhere. Yet another excuse to take it out, I guess.

Fortunately I was able to drive up to ETI and they replaced the window (rear dinette, driver's side). Before, I called all over the place trying to find a replacement, but none of the glass repair places carried any for RVs.

Ouch! That sounds like it was the emergency escape window. I lost one too but it was because Hehr had installed the latch bracket upside down and the window decided to unlatch itself and fly away somewhere on I10 in Louisiana.

About four hundred dollars later and several weeks for delivery, I had a new one and saw how the latch bracket was suppose to be installed. So much for QC from Hehr.

Most Lippert products are not sold directly to consumers by Lippert, so it's not surprising that where they do offer a purchase link, it's not within the main Lippert site. In this case, in 2014 Lippert bought a RV, heavy truck and specialty vehicle glass and window distribution company, called Duncan Systems, so it still operates as it did but is referred to as Duncan by Lippert. Even Duncan is likely not the manufacturer (although they at least used to do actual repair work themselves), but just a distributor which offers retail sales. If a consumer could eliminate Duncan and buy directly from the manufacturer (probably another Lippert division) it might be cheaper, but that's not likely possible.

I went with the glass shop in town (no-brainer). When you're sheltering in place there are not too many options.

The trailer geezer will abide:
