Grey tank drain line separation

So the ABS and PVC threaded male and female adapters that are sold at your local building supply stores are straight threads? I’m guessing that the NPT designation indicates a tapered thread?

I'm reasonably certain that the female tank fitting is tapered, and ETI is sticking a straight threaded male fitting into it. But if you take the joint apart (which you probably can't do without cutting pipe, so you're not going to do this just to find out), you can measure and check.

The male straight threaded fitting intended for a slip joint will be tapered inside the end where the missing sealing ring is supposed to go; a male tapered thread fitting will have a plain end.

I too have the same leak under the sink in 2019 5.0 while under warranty. I too contacted ETI and was told the same, take it to an RV repair shop... After talking with Destin he supplied me with a detail sheet so I could do it myself and be on my way, but the following season the same thing. My thinking is that something is moving and the other component is remaining still, so I disassembled the repair thinking it failed but no, now it looks as though the female collar is leaking! I don't know if this issue would prompt a recall but I feel ETI should follow up on these occurrences.

Don’t hold your breath about a recall with the new management.

They are allowing stoves to blow up and burn people without sending out any warning.

My 2019, 17B began to drip at the grey tank connection.

I found this thread (thanks for all the information!). Because of your posts I as able to repair it fairly easily. I knew just what parts to buy before I began. The 1.5” pipe fitting was sheared right off flush with the grey tank.

The caulking that Escape used didn’t adhere to the tank or fitting at all.

I was able to partially saw through the broken fitting in two places about 1/4” apart with a hacksaw blade. Then apply lots of heat to soften it. Broke out the 1/4” strip using an awl so it then collapsed internally. Similar to drilling out a broken bolt.

I reassembled with two flex fittings, a 3” and 1.5”, and improved clamp to prevent excessive movement that caused the pipe to shear.

I used clear silicone RTV on the grey tank fitting threads.

Overall not as crappy a job as I expected !

Just returned from a trip where I accidentally filled the grey tank and ended up with water coming from my lower cabinet where the sink drain goes into the grey tank. When I returned home I removed the foam around the sink drain where I it goes through the floor into the grey tank and filled my tank. Gurgling and water coming up onto the floor and draining out the exterior shell drain next the door step. A quick pull of the grey handle and the tsunami was over. The connection is broken and I have foam insulation. I’ve sent my email to Dustin but I wanted to hear from anyone about any solutions out there. I’m putting my trailer is storage this week and will deal with in the Spring. Appreciate it.

Has anyone here done the repair of the grey line to the grey tank on a 5.0 for the bathroom drain. I can’t figure out where to start. Just completed the kitchen drain.

I've recently become a member of this elite drain squad... I've read this long set of posts with great appreciation and respect. I really was not thrilled to come home after what was basically our first trip in too many years (.....) to find three (so far) gray water connection failures. At least I don't have foam. But now I have solutions thanks to all of you!
And by the way when I asked the tech at our local RV repair shop (Century RV in Eureka, CA) about this repair, he said these are pretty common 5 years in. Sealants and plastics have about that lifespan. Made worse of course with unnecessary stresses.

We'll see how it goes and again thanks. Ray

We too have a leak in the bathroom drain of our 2019 - 5.0. When the grey tank is full it now overflows into the storage area under the stairs and not into the shower pan like it did when new. Really hoping it can be repaired from the inside without having to remove the tank and foam insulation.

Sent an email to Escape yesterday asking for advice, access, etc. Will let you know what they say.
