high pitch noise from LP detector

Does any one else have a loud, high pitch noise that comes from L.P. detector?
My son took to sleep outside during our last 10 day trip.
Temp. solution was to place towels in front of it, to quite it down the sound!

It really sounds like the alarm is doing it's job. Shut off the gas and air out the trailer. If the noise stops, you've got a propane leak!

Until you know what is causing it, DO NOT USE THE TRAILER!!!

Re: high pitch noise from LP detector

My son has noticed the same high pitch noise, which I can't. And this is from a brand new detector with the LP gas shut off for many, many weeks. Anyone else have this situation?

Now that I see several "I'm hearing noises too" posts, I have to ask the first poster, how loud is loud ?

for myself if i hit the kind like button self test, the sound is loud like a house smoke detector. The other noise i'm talking about is continuous.....not lound but always there.....put you're ear near the hold you will hear it.

If there is no propane leak, the problem may be a low battery. That happened to the one of the Eureka Escape owners, and he put in a cut off switch. That can be risky if one forgets to change it back on when the battery is re-charged.

Re: high pitch noise from LP detector

I spoke with the detector people and they are aware of the problem. They do make a high pitch squeal that you may notice within arms reach at the most. With the faulty units, you would step into the trailer and think....what is that noise? (Still better than ...what is that smell?) :} If your detector is making you cringe, email me.

Reace, my wife and kids make me cringe at times. If I was to email you, could you take care of that?

Re: high pitch noise from LP detector

On my last fishing trip with my son and grandson, they both mentioned hearing a high pitched sound inside the trailer. I don't hear it, I suffer from tinnitus and hear a high pitched sound ALL the time. Patti is usually very sensitive to such sounds but hasn't mentioned it so far. If she begins to notice it and we can verify it's coming from the propane detector, we'll have to see about getting a replacement.

Re: high pitch noise from LP detector

My detector has spontaneous alarmed on a couple of occasions, and it seemed to occur when the trailer is completely shut (all vents and windows closed). When I left the maxx fan vent open, it didn't go off. Reace thought the alarm might be reacting to volatile organics being given off in the trailer.

Last night I installed a full-lenth mirror on the bathroom door, and when I came out this morning the alarm was going off. The trailer was closed tight and I had spray-painted the mirror frame a couple of days before, making me think Reace has it right...the alarm is reacting to the volatile fumes given off by the mirror frame.
