Honda EU2000i gen wouldn’t start

Generator has about 325 hours on it and it has always run perfectly. The other day it absolutely refused to start. Did a little research and over time the jets can get clogged with gunk that can build up in the carb. My father was able to follow this video to clean them and it started on the first pull after he put it back together. Worth a look if you are having trouble starting an EU2000i. I’m sure the 2200i is similar. With basic tools this can be done in the field if needed.

I've had a pair of EU2000i's since ~2006, absolute great workhorses, no idea how many hundred's of hours on 'em (I use them a lot around the property in addition to when camping), but I did suffer the clogged-jet/no-start syndrome due to intermittent use.

After the second carb-teardown I installed a valve to allow fuel-shutoff separate from ignition cut-off and thereby 'run-dry' upon shutdown. Nary a problem with clogged jets since and that's been many years ago.

The later EU2000/2200's have a fuel valve position separate from ignition cut-off that allows 'run-dry', there's many YouTube videos and even kits sold to install it on those early versions that don't.

Just FYI, Have Fun!

I have a pair I've had since '07. My remedy has been to keep them full of high octane non-ethanol and run each of them for a few minutes about once a month. I change out the gas every year or so also.

Thanks for the lead. Will be installing one of these! Makes the existing ON/OFF dial just a fuel shutoff and the new switch becomes engine kill. Plug and play design. Nifty.

True. Maybe that conversion is next!
