Hot water reset light

I have a 2013 Escape 17B that I recently purchased and now now starting to use it. I discovered the hot water tank gas and ignition were both not engaging when I turn on the hot water switch. The problem was that the reset switch needed to be replaced within the outside cabinet. Upon replacing it the hot water worked. What is a possible concern to me now is that upon turning on the power to the hot water, the red reset switch lights up. After about 14 seconds I hear the electronic ignition start and the heating engages. Is this normal? Should the red reset switch light up every time I turn it on?

That red light indicates that water heater is firing and not yet lit. It goes off once it is lit.

Good to know - thx. Sounds like the system is working properly then. That’s not how it was explained in the manual.

Just to further what Jim said the “reset” (or on newer trailers “DSI fault”) light will come on while the system is purging and trying to light. It will attempt 3 times to light. If it cannot light after 3 tries it will lockout which means the red reset light will then stay lit. To reset you turn the switch off, wait 5 seconds and turn it back on. (The manual doesn’t specifically mention the operation of the light but it does as described above)

By the way, some of us have added LED’s or a lighted switch that will stay on while the switch is on as a visual indicator the hot water system is operating. I believe the switch stays lit on newer trailers where the switch and fault light are integrated into the KIB monitoring panel.

The product link in my post above is bad. A switch like this should work:
