How to replace mudflaps on 2017 E21

One of my mudflaps mostly broke off, and I ordered new ones from Escape. They promptly arrived. I assumed I'd unscrew the old one from the frame and screw in the new one. Wrong. What I thought were screws are apparently rivets. Any experience with this issue and suggestions on tackling this do-it-yourself project? Assume no experience on my part with rivets.Oh, and also assume I'm not interested in a discussion as to whether or not I even need mud flaps... need or not, want is the issue! Thanks in advance for any and all help, as always!

There was just about two weeks ago an extensive discussion on this forum regarding pop rivet replacement, the tool(s) needed etc. a good thing to learn if you’ve not dealt with pop rivets before and a good DIY project. Everybody needs mud-flaps, think about the guy behind you.

Here is a start.

Edit: in the thread there is some discussion of replacing rivets with sheet metal screws. Someone might weigh in here on doing that in this instance. Car mudflaps are often screwed on.

Thanks again everyone. It was a piece of cake, really. And now I'm the proud owner of a rivet tool!
