How to Troubleshoot Converter

Arrived Amarillo, Tx (hot), plugged in nothing, pole check ok, even switched locations. I see that the converter fan spins up then shuts off. EMS doesn't even turn on. I do have 12volt. Guess our trip to Colorado just got ruined.......

Looking at the weather forecast for Dripping Springs Texas , heading on to Colorado and trying to solve the problem seems the logical choice . Let us know what you decide !!

If you are hearing the converter fan kick on the EMS should have already engaged. You should be able to hear the EMS's relay kick after the timeout expires. Something like a minute or 2 after plugging in.

No reading on EMS, does flash red for a moment then goes black. Do hear a click when this happens. Do notice converter fan spins up then spins down. Have tried to wiggle power cord to see if connection issue. Power at pole good. tested with meter, even switched locations. 12v works and batteries good. Have not checked 30amp cord (need to read up on this). Survived hot Amarillo by running ext cord from pole to portable fans.

The more i think about it, think the EMS went bad. Need to call Progressive to see what they say. Power cord has light on it, so I don't think that is the issue.

Did you happen to try to switch to bypass or Off with the little switch on the display unit? This bypasses the electronics (but not surge protection) and would be something good to try. Might allow you to limp through until EMS is replaced. After trying that my recommendation was going to be PI tech support:
919.267.6964
Tech@progressiveindustrustries.net

(By the way IF you are handy with electrical you can ensure no power, open the EMS and take the wires off each side of the relay contactor and use large wire nuts to connect black-to-black (hot), White-to-White (Neutral) and green-to-green (ground). This assumes there is enough slack in the wiring. That would take the EMS completely out of the system.)

You could also jumper out the EMS contactor / relay with some short pieces of # 12 THHN cu wire
I’ll end my comments on the EMS at this point .

Followup: The issue was bad receptacle. Replaced with better and all is good. It was very HOT in Colorado so glad we got it fixed cause AC was needed!

Another reason not to get plug in wire (marine hookup)

From my experience, it doesn’t matter if it’s a $100 marine receptacle or a $2 Home Depot special . if the terminations are improperly done you will have problems
Better parts doesn’t compensate for poor workmanship.
