I don't understand Amazon.ca

Why when I search for items on Amazon.ca does it produce outrageous prices? I can't imagine anybody actually ordering.
And, in this case I get a photo of some eye cream and description of safety triangles.
Anyway, I already have the triangles. I was just looking for info about them.

I understand it in most cases: it's a competitive marketplace, and companies will sell their product for as much as they can get. If the Amazon.com suppliers of an item will not ship to Canada, the Amazon.ca prices are higher... often wildly high.

What doesn't make sense is when the Amazon.ca price is higher than other retailers, and by so much that even a person who just automatically orders from Amazon without thinking would probably notice the unreasonable price.

Do your own due diligence. Shop around.

Being in London, it’s only 55 minutes to the US border. We often cross over at Sarnia Port Huron MI with the trailer, spend 48 hours at the KOA do some shopping and save lots of money. I often order items from Amazon.com and have them delivered to a PO Box. Don’t forget you get $800 per person over 48 hours and a case of beer per person.

The Port Huron KOA is a 5 star resort 3 pools, go karts, golf cart rental, basketball courts, mini golf, bouncy pillow, bumper boats, banana bike rentals, pizza, and cabin rentals for our non RVing friends.

You haven't added in the cost of travel medical insurance for U.S.

Many people have a plan through their work or for retirees like us we buy an annual plan which allows us 33 days away in the US as many times as we want.

For us almost all our Amazon shopping is .com not .ca as we can pick up minutes from home. I don't even mind paying taxes and if it's under $100 or so they often just wave us through even if we've been out of Canada for fifteen minutes.

Last time I looked for my wife and I, one month travel medical to US would cost us $2,800. Could travel the world ( excluding US ) for about half that.

Glenn.
Both Alf&Maryanne and Adrian&Beth spend months in the USA, both are retired. Thousands of Canadians spend the winters in Florida, known as snowbirds. Perhaps you should look into their medical plans and come south occasionally.

Insurance cost depends on pre-existing conditions. I have an extended health plan, but it doesn't include or offer travel medical.

The estimates I've gotten were from BCAA.

There it is there Glenn - BCAA - you know of course that BC means bring cash. Kidding aside I'm surprised by that quote.

A year ago we had to go through special underwriting with the Manitoba CAA insurance because of a medicine Beth had taken which prevented her from buying the regular insurance. Even at that it was only $407 for 30 days.

Now we purchase Medipac, the CSA (Canadian Snowbird Association) recommended insurance.

Thanks. I just ran the BCAA travel medical application for two weeks and came up with $1354 for two weeks for Les and me. Would have to run the form past our doctors to make sure everything is disclosed.
Last time I did that, even my doctor was unsure of a couple questions.
Family wants to go to Hawaii next year. I'd be content to stay home with a 30-pack of Bud Lite and Hawaii 5.0 reruns.

No doubt that travel insurance is a big negative for some. Ah, for the carefree days of youth when I could hop on my motorcycle and head for San Francisco without a thought in the world about travel insurance.

We're lucky, only about $700 a year for us but starting to go up more each year as I get older. Ours is good for multiple trips of 30 days in the US. If we're going to be out of the country longer we pay a little extra.

We have some older friends who for many years had a place in Hawaii and spent Winters there. By the time they were 80 the medical premiums were about $8,000. They stopped going. I told my wife that if my premiums ever get to that point I'll self insure. If I have a major problem, hire a private jet, throw me in it and get me back to Vancouver.

For our recent 2 1/2 month trip to the US and Mexico we were able to use our Travel credit card for the first 2 weeks, then bought additional insurance for $350 CAD for the last 2 months. Vehicle insurance for Mexico was almost as much. But still, we had the most awesome trip and would pay the same, or even more, to do it again. Fun is fun!

Better read the fine print, especially when you hit 70 years old.
TD bank sent me a letter withdrawing insurance for my line-of-credit when I hit 70.

Yes, the credit card insurance goes down to a couple days at 65.

I am even wondering if my recent fall will affect cost at all. Heck, even though I had a class 1 license, they are making me take a class 5 road test because of recent medical happenings. I actually took a 2-hour hour driving instruction course where the instructor said I did excellent at driving, but did alert me to some of the wee issues to watch for, mirror and shoulder checking, maximum speeds, stopping where required at intersections, and a few other little things. He also said I will pass the test no problem

My instructor/tester took me through an area with heavy pedestrian presence and then had me parallel park next to a field. Although I checked mirrors etc., I neglected to check for any potential car entering the street from a lane, as I backed into the space.

Nobody's perfect.
