I want to replace the keylocks on the hatches

Hi Guys:

Happy Holidays!

I am getting really tired of the cheap locks on the hatches. The keys do not fit in very nicely and I want to key the propane hatch.

Does anyone have great suggestions about replacing those keylocks on the hatches. I want a nice key entry mostly.

Thank you.

Try these and let me know I'm thinking of redoing mine.

I just replaced my storage locks and these worked perfectly:
https://www.rvshop.com/CH751-Baggage...t_p_74438.html

If you have the Global Link door lock, look at your key and use the G### code and they will match the cam locks to the door key. Now we have one key for the door and hatches.

Select the 7/8 length.

Pretty easy swap out, maybe 5 minutes a lock.

How east do the keys slide in? Do they stick? Is it hard to figure out which way they fit in?

Thanks.

We installed an RV lock on the door and replaced the hatch lock at the same time. The keys are matched and can be inserted in either direction. The only issue was the supplied cams for the latch didn't have the correct offset so I had to get new cams. I ended up buying cheap locks at Home Depot just to steal the offset cams.

Putting a lock on the propane hatch is not prudent. If there is a problem (fire) it may slow down your ability to valve off the tank and will prevent any bystander from doing so. In 2015, Reace told me that code required that the compartment not have locks so the valves can be accessed by safety personnel. However, a lock on the tank retaining system to discourage theft of tanks presents no problems.

The ch 751 locks are the same as what's there, and i doubt that the keys will be easier than the ones you have now. In addition, virtually every hatch, and some trailer doors, use the EXACT same key.

The ones like Steven's (the first link) work fine. You can see the little tab on the key that inserts in the cylinder. I'm not sure what depth I ordered but I used a link I saw in the Escape Forum.

We removed the cheap, one-key-fits-all locks-on-everyone's-camper that ETI installed on our 5.0 with these tubular cam lock cylinders nearly two years ago and have been very satisfied.

Enjoy,

Perry

Never even thought about access in an emergency.

Thanks for the info. Might back off on that one.

A few nylon washers will deal with the offset cam.

I just replaced the locks on the trailer. I bought the RV Lock and three cylinder locks for hatches, and also bought an extra fob. The black friday deal was great. Others have used washers, or new cams with more offset on the hatch locks. All I did was put the cam arm in a vise and apply a force to bend the cam arm ( i hit it within a hammer ). Reinstalled and refined the bend. They work great and are so much of an improvement over the originals. I also like the RV Lock, but if you install it, be sure to read instructions and not over tighten. If you make it too tight it binds and will not work. Loosened screws and it functions great, keypad, fob, or key.

The hatch lock from RVLock dimensions are,

Lock barrel length 1 and 1/2 in
Cam length 1 and 1/2 in
Cam offset 1/8 in

I didn't think to measure the ones I took off, but I will tomorrow.

I'll re enter a measuring guide I got here. I think it was here.

Edit: Make that offset 1/16

Hi RangerMan,

Would have PM'd you, but that wasn't an option. You posted a link to RVLocks.com. Did you order their hatch key lock or the one from RVLock.com. Just wanted to clarify, since they are two different stores.

I got mine from RVLock during their sale last week. I didn't know there were two places with same name.

Hi: UncleTim... WHY? Locks are only there for the honest people. I just lube them periodically so they won't do any damage getting in!!!. Alf
