per a random webstrore, that generator is...
Product Height 20 in.
Product Length 22.75 in.
Product Width 17.3 in.
Product Weight 99.2 lbs.

so, if you cut a cardboard box down so its 20" H, 23" long, and 17" wide, will it fit in the back of your truck when hitched ? be sure to allow some clearance for the trailer 'twisting' when you go over a change in camber (eg, truck leaning a bit left while trailer leans a bit right, or visa versa), as well as changes in slope (truck aimed up hill while trailer is still level, etc).

do note, thats a 100 lb generator, so lifting it in and out of the truck will be a two person job.

The box sides of a current F-150 are about 21.4" high; put a 20" tall generator on the bed floor, and the top of the generator is close to the top of the box. The bed floor of an F-150 is typically about 35" above the ground so the box sides are 56" or so from the ground; that's well above the standard height for a fifth-wheel pin or Andersen coupler, so if the generator is to be in the bed while hitching or unhitching it would need to be off to one side (assuming it's behind the hitch), so the trailer's pin box could pass beside it... or the trailer would need to be jacked extra high -
high enough to go safely over the top of the generator.

Would that work? It sounds a bit dicey to me.

It is possible to adjust both the pin box and the hitch higher, within limits, but I would still not be confident that the it would be practical to back the truck with generator under the pin box. This applies with or without a basic Andersen coupler block (adapter), but the funnel now provided with the coupler hangs even lower.

I carry a Yamaha 2000 in the back of my F150 off to one side. I don’t have any problems hooking or unhooking my 5.0 TA to the Andersen hitch. I imagine the size of the mentioned generators are similar.

Yamaha EF2000ISV2 specifications:
Quote:
L x W x H: 19.3 x 11.0 x 17.9 in
Dry Weight: 44.1 lb
This Yamaha is quite a bit smaller, in every dimension... assuming that John found the right model (which is likely a 3500 watt unit, rather than 3000 watt). Kevin's Predator is closely comparable to a Yamaha EF3000iS, or Honda 3000i ES, rather than the smaller 2000 watt models.

I can see how the smaller generator fits well, off to one side. It's also so light that many people could lift it into the box ahead of the hitch (which would also work for the Predator 3000W... if it were not so heavy). Some people even use two of the smaller size and connect them together, because the pair are easier to handle than one larger generator.

inverter generator

I thank you all for your replies after measuring I tend to agree it is real close. Since I don't have the hitch installed yet I will not jump until I am sure. I also think the smaller unit may be the better option.
Getting excited for pick up April 17!!!

btw, I'd be hesitant to buy an off brand or store brand generator, due to probable difficulty in getting engine parts.... You KNOW you can get all engine parts for Honda easily, and Yamaha is pretty reasonable too. off brand stuff pretty much has to be treated as disposable. Also, the accumulated hearsay experience of those in my acquaintance is, as much as 50% DOA on off brand inverter generators, even brands like 'genrac' (who does NOT make the 2000-3000 VA inverter stuff sold at big box stores with their branding)..

One other thing to note is that Honda is coming out with a replacement for the 2000 watt generator. It will be a 2200 watt with very close to the same weight, a fuel cutoff switch and similar noise level. It has a slightly larger motor. It is supposed to be available this spring. Search Honda Generator as GOCAMP posted the information in this forum a couple months ago.

Has anyone any experience with the DR Power Equipment's 2200i or 3000i inverter generators? https://www.drpower.com/power-equipment/generators/
Nice power ratings and price for the size and weight, but they don't (won't) mention actual decibel ratings. We have owned and operated one of their Field and Brush mowers for nearly a decade and really like it. Well built, durable, dependable, no problems. We're currently fans of the Honda line of small generators, but our very positive experience with their Field and Brush mower alone makes these worth looking into for us, but does anyone on the forum already have any real world experience with either of these DR generators?

I've no experience with them Dale, but I noted that they don't publish the decibel rating.

In their Q&A they state "As there is no industry standard set for testing the sound output ratings of a portable generator, we are unable to provide decibel ratings for any of our portable units."

I find that puzzling since Honda, Yamaha, Generac and a host of other manufacturers are able to publish their dB ratings.

also, its 2200 VA, but deep in the Q&A they admit its only 1700W sustained. thats hardly better than a honda 2000VA which is 1600W sustained.

Since DR Power Equipment is a division of "Country Home Products", and Country Home is owned by Generac, my guess is that their 2200W generator is basically the same as the Generac GP2200i. The Generac can be had online for about $600.Click image for larger version

and the Generac inverter generators that I've seen have been Asian imports, not actually made by Generac... and yeah, that looks like the *identical* unit.

Generac

I’ve heard the Generac 1000 watt units in person a few times and even a pair in tandem with an auxiliary fuel tank and I did not note that they were especially noisy. A fellow had a pair of them at Grand Coulee dam a year ago. He ran them around the clock for his roof AC on his stick built. Once inside the Escape with the max fan on and owing to how cool that desert country gets at night we did not hear them. Maybe he “shut them off when it cooled down”? I did notice the Generacs had a voltage output reading on them and that it would “step up” when the AC cycled if I remember right.

Unless you need boondocking AC, go with solar and forget the generator.

and really, only if you need more than 200 watts AC for more than a few hours/day would I consider bringing a generator. if you need air conditioning when boondocking, then sure, its a must (thats 1500 watts or something and likely many hours/day)

i've been camping in a beautiful quiet area at a music festival and had nearby folks who had to fire up their generator first thing to make coffee in the morning. IMHO, insane and rude, as its so easy to make good coffee without needing an electric coffee maker.
