Inverter/Transfer switch issue: no 110 power

Before contacting ETI, I thought I'd take advantage of the collective minds recuperating from the Rally at Osoyoos. I'm having problems with our Samlex power inverter, I think. I have no power to the outlets, after pushing the remote control power switch.

Everything has worked fine up until two days ago. Here's what I found so far: checked all the GFCI's, the one on the inverter itself and the other outside. Neither one are tripped. Checked all the circuit breakers in the panel. None are fried. Switched on and off any movable breaker switches: none were off.

When I power up the inverter remote, the inverter itself starts, green light glowing, and internal fan powers up. After a moment or two, there is an audible click from what I assume is the transfer switch in the metal box behind the power panel. In the past, once that click was heard, all the outlets would power up. Now, no such luck. All wires seem to be tight and connected.

Readout on the inverter remote panel reads 13.5 ±. There's no display on the output power. Reviewing the Samlex manual, my assumption was that it was a GFCI problem. However, the green LED on the inverter is glowing. I see no other GFCI I can reset.

Is there some other reset switch I'm missing? Any other troubleshooting ideas?

Thanks in advance for all your collective wisdom.

Klaus

Hi Klaus,
We had a failure on our transfer switch during our maiden voyage from Escape last year. We tried all the usual things and Reace had us check other things to. To make a long story short, the transfer switch went bad. During the rest of the trip, we used an extension cord directly from the inverter and were able to make due. (Especially when camped at Lake Mead with temps of 99 degrees - we ran a fan) When we got home, Reace sent us a new transfer switch and it has worked great since then.

That's what I was thinking. Did you notice any symptoms? Did the switch still click, even when delivering no power?

I don't remember a clicking noise, but we (Reace & I) spent most of our time troubleshooting the inverter instead of the transfer switch. Reace told me that he had never had a transfer switch fail prior to mine going bad. Once he contacted the manufacturer and they told him that they sometimes just fail, then it was easy just plugging into the inverter and not worrying about the transfer switch until we got home from our 10 week maiden voyage. Once the new transfer switch was installed (by me) we haven't had a problem.
