Kinda dumb propane question
I just bought a 2016 Escape 5 this summer. I have not had a lot of chance to use it. I would like to take it to TN for a week mid-November 2021. Ave daily temps in the 50s, mid-30s at night. Will my two propane tanks get me through the week running the furnace? I will have shore power.
Thanks!
Jean

If you have shore power, buy an inexpensive electric heater and use that instead of propane. You will easily last a week on propane, but electric heat is so much quieter, and an oil-filled electric heater is silent ( if bulky ).

Hi: Weavery... This isn't a dumb question but it can be an "Explosive" issue here!!! I dare say 1 tank of propane would do you for a week unless you want the trailer at 75-80* day and night. Sounds like the perfect opportunity to test out just how much you will use. We use a small electric cube heater on low and only supplement it with the furnace. Also we BBQ a lot with the quick connect and our Spitfire grille. Our use is usually 1 tank per year. Alf

Depends on how warm you plan to keep the trailer. During the winter I stayed at Quartzsite, I had the furnace set at 61°F with the temperatures you described. A tank of propane lasted 10 - 14 days, 7 days during the week where the night time temperatures were close to freezing.

Hi Jean, If you plan to use your furnace a lot in the cold, I would start with 2 full propane bottles, set temps a low as comfortable, and be in the habit of checking the automatic change-over green/red switch, located on your regulator - daily. If it switched to red, I would then switch to a small electric heater, instead to preserve propane in the 2nd tank. Personally, if we have hook-ups and its cold, we prefer to use our small electric heater to preserve our propane. However, if you use a small electric heater, some units can draw a lot of power so watch what other high powered items you use at the same time. If you use too many high current devices at once, ie, electric heater + microwave + hair dryer + electric hot water heater, etc, it can trip the circuit breaker. Don't ask me how I know! BTW, congrats on your new 5.0! -Bea

Thank you! I will pack a cube heater and start with two full tanks. Someone mentioned the furnace being noisy. The furnace is actually remarkably quiet after listening to the overhead Coleman with a heat strip in my Scamp.
As always, nothing beats the help I get from the forum.

I have a Vornado Whole Room electric heater. It's big, about the size of a medicine ball. I really like it. It can operate on either 750 watts or 1500 watts. Three different fan speeds and has a thermostat. The fan runs continually. No distraction when the fan kicks on! It's just constant white noise. Great for sleeping.

Definitely much quieter than an A/C unit with heat strip. Also the Atwood/Dometic furnaces that Escape has and currently uses are quieter than the furnace Scamp uses which I believe is the Suburban NT Series.
