Kingpin measurements

Hi guys,

Can anyone with a 5.0 tell me the diameter and the lengt of the kingpin is? Next to that i would like to know what the height from kingpin to the ground is when the 5.0 is level.

I need these measurements in order to make some sort of device whit which we can move the trailer manually around. Something to do with thight turns in order to get into the garage.

Thanks for your help.

I took a few photos and some measurements.

The pin is a standard 2 inch diameter at the neck of the pin.

The height of the base plate from the ground is 97 centimeters.

Not all 5.0s are the same height. It depends on how much spacer blocks were added to the frame for a particular truck. You give Reace your top rail bed height and he takes it from there.
Let me know how your dolly project works out. I have yet to find a power dolly I think would work and store best.

Hi Tim,

thanks for the measurements and the pictures, very helpful indeed, one question left, what is the width of the pin above and under the 2" neck?

Thanks for your help!

Hmm, i didn't gave Reace the top height becaus i do not have a TV yet. But i assumed there's some sort of standard. We'll have to wait and see how high it is exactly, but i now have a ballpark figure.

I 'm not aming for a power dolly, those are available via the internet but they are way out of my budget.
I'm thinking of building a manual dolly.
A base of 60x40 on 8" wheels with air filled tires and using a jack (like this one: Potkrikken online kopen - Gratis Verzending | Datona.nl) should do the trick.

I'll keep you posted on any progress.

Have fun!

Hi: Seef... Yes a good old "Bottle Jack". The hitch is usually quite adjustable, as is the pin box. Reace adds brackets to the frame so the trailer can ride higher as ours does. For the new 5.0TA the axles are adjustable and are set for the height of the hitch plate.
All of this will not help you in building a moving platform, only lining up a truck/trailer combo. Alf

Hi Seef,
You might want to give that some thought. I move my 5.0 around a lot on level concrete with leg wheels. It does require some strength. If you have any slope or unpaved surface I believe you will have a lot of difficulty with a hand mover. I have been wanting to build a power mover sized for an Escape 5.0.

Hi David,

Same here, i need to move it around on level concrete, the "bump" from the pavement into the garage is about 2 cm high.
I can back up the trailer just into the garage after which i need to slide it to the side.

I've got some "skates" for the rear wheels. Gave that a go with a car of about the same weight of a Escape trailer, works like a charm.

I wil give the handpowered option a go, if that turns out to be to hard for us, we need to get the rig powered in somesort way.

Have fun!

I would consider using another pair of "skates" under the front jacks. If so I would lower them so they are extended as little as possible to reduce the leverage on them.
