Kitchen Drawers
Has anyone had problems with the drawers? Disappointed there not plywood and had better tracks. Do they stand up or fly open when traveling? dirt roads? Plus can anyone tell me where they put there coats and shoes at the door? or do you just step over them? Were just thinking of how the layout will work for us. thanks

The drawers are solid wood with metal tracks, a lot better than plywood. They have catches that keep them shut while towing, never had one open in close to 50,000 miles. There are closets in each Escape to hang up clothes, but most campers install shelves and fold their clothes for better space utilization since space is at a premium in a small camper. We put shoes under dinette seats.

Coats go on hooks either inside or out, and any shoes beyond one pair go in the shoe cupboard.

I had one drawer fall out during a radical maneuver to avoid pieces of a tire that exploded just in front of me. It is very possible that the drawer was not shut properly. The only time it has happened.

No to drawers being a problem.
We find the shoe storage on the door really handy for some shoes. Others, like heavy boots, get put under the dinette seat which is why the extra door there is so handy.
We keep our jackets mostly in the closet. Don't know how folks get along without it. Maybe they're always in climates where they never wear jackets.
A little shelf over the door is really handy for small stuff that you want close at hand when you're coming and going.

No problem whatsoever with the drawers.
Umbra hooks--or something similar--solve the problem of what to do with coats at the door (depending on model chosen).

Not sure what trailer you are getting but if it is a 19 you can open up the end of the bench seat by the door and put in a shelf to hold a bunch of shoes.
I put a door over the hole which I got from the microwave cabinet but anyone can order it as an option.

Great pictures. We are looking at the 21'. So no dinette at the door or a wall to put hooks. We were thinking under bed maybe.

on our 21, we keep extra shoes behind the door thats under the bed and directly in front o fhte outside, you can just about reach it from outside.... and we got a coat hook that hooks over the bathroom door, but it mostly gets used for our bath towels.
on the 21, just inside the door and forward, there's a whole set of cubbies, I bet a couple of those could be used for shoes, or a shoe holder could be mounted over them. ours are full of things like wash rags, facecloths, extra kleenex, etc.
the 21 really has quite a lot of very useful storage. I'm still trying to convince my wife she really doesn't need to fill every cubic inch.

On our 21' we use the Umbra cubby with hooks at door. it work well for jackets, keys, sunglasses, phone, etc. Door shoe organizer for bug spray, shoes, snacks, magazines, sunblock, etc.

The classic generation had that storage available between the door and screen, that went away with the 2ndG model but there were other tradeoffs for that change.

Like Ron in post 6, we have a mounted a shoe rack not on the door but on the side of the clothes closet (in the 17b) next to the door. We like having the cabinet for hanging jackets but if you only camp in warm weather, shelves might be more efficient. No problems with drawers coming out although you could install an additional pressure catch if you are worried about it. Screws on the slide came loose and had to be tightened though.

I had Escape add an additional door under the bed in my 21 that faces the trailer door. I keep a plastic bin (without a top) inside for shoes. I know many others have done the same.
As to coats & long sleeve shirts (everything else goes on shelves in the closets) I added Umbra hooks in 3 places: Bathroom Wall (3 hooks, doesn't get used much), Entry Door (2 hooks just fit on the end of the cabinets above the stripper pole, gets used for coats & hats) and on the refrigerator wall (5 hooks, used for long sleeve shirts). Since I travel through 3 seasons (actually 4, but the winter is spent in the Arizona/California desert) I carry lots of clothes. I had the additional closet above the drawer stack modification and found it very useful.

In the 21' you can get ETI to add a door under the bed, just next to the bathroom. Then you can contact Charlie at RV Widgets for a nifty box with dividers (you figure out where you want 'em) for your shoes. I can fit 3 pairs of size 11s in my box. Keeps 'em out of the way. As soon as I get in the trailer, I can sit on the bed, take off my shoes and put them in the box.
I've never had a drawer open while traveling, although my lower kitchen drawer feels a bit wonky. I can't figure out what's going on, but it doesn't pull out as easily as the top drawer.
I have had the kitchen cabinet door (next to the fridge) pop open twice while traveling. The first time I know it was due to something heavy in there; second time I'm not sure. So, I sewed up a strap to go over the door (as well as the flip up tables that bang around when the trailer is in transit).

ah, and here I thought that was standard... we have two doors under the bed, that one, and another on the side facing the rear... I've been thinking I'd like a LONG drawer/box to go in that rear facing door, that would be on rollers or something, so I could slide it out into the walkway, and store all kinds of stuff in it, maybe with compartments...
