Little table in front

im trying to drop the little dinette table in the front to make it a bed the table pulls out but how do you get it off the stand to place it on the bench to make a bed ? Leon showed me but now I have forgotten how.

If it's like ours (we also have the 17B), it just lifts off the pedestal, and the pedestal just lifts out of the pedestal base mounted to the floor. Maybe it's just stiff or binding?

We bought our 17B used very recently, & it has the gaucho bunk option which we will have a need for only occasionally, so I took out the bunk/backrest, and we're using throw pillows & cushions in place of the backrest. That left a 6" or so gap at the back of the table, so we had ETI make us a larger replacement table. We kept the original table to use when the bunk/backrest is put back into service. This lets us keep the bed semi-permanently set up in the "regular" dinette area and still leaves us a usable dinette for the early-riser to use while allowing the other the luxury of sleeping late!

I'm also planning on making a shelf which will screw into the glassed-in support boards for the backrest, for extra storage space for keys & other small stuff (this would be just below the window). I had the same arrangement in the Boler, & was happy to see I could duplicate the functionality in the Escape.

if it's really stuck, I would turn the table upside down, put your foot on the table and rotate the leg back and forth while pulling up. The leg comes out of the table top in the same way it comes out of the floor. I hope that helps.

Those dang table poles and bowls are the reason I decided not to get a table in Ten Forward. I don't have the strength to change from dinette to bed. Besides, I have a full time bed...

Kate, once you get it made to a bed, use something slippery on the connections. Don't struggle the next time.

And they're why I decided to remove them and install a gas operated single pedestal. SOOOO much better.

If it stuck to the floor pedestal, just juggle it back and forth and pull up. Darn thing!

I've been following those threads Robert and bookmarked the URLs where to buy. I think you made a very good decision

Got it once I saw that I just needed to pull it came right out. But it's hard to get the cushions to lie flat they want to pop up. I'm going to get a topper for it so my guest will be comfortable is it twin sized?

It's 30.5" wide, narrower than a twin so twin sheets will work. I find the size quite comfortable but if your guest is claustrophobic it won't work because of the wardrobe and shower walls. I joke with friends that there's no way I can fall out of bed now

What is that quote about making it too comfortable for your guests to where they do not want to leave??

We also ordered the Springfield gas powered single pedestal. We feel it will be easier to move the table top up and down, and be able to use it down for a lounge area with a "cocktail" table.
We will bring it with us and ETI said they would install it at orientation!
SO thankful for this forum and all the great ideas we have gotten from some pretty terrific people!

I'm assuming the pedestal is removable for when you want to make it into a bed. What sort of base? Is it flush to the floor or does it stick up and get in the way of your feet?

There are quite a few threads discussing it. Use the search function above and type in either pedestal or springfield in the google search window. Here's one of the threads showing my install:

http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f8...mods-5691.html

The base is permanently attached to the floor, but it has a low profile. Instead of two tubes you now only have one, and it's centered, so there is more foot room. To raise or lower you flip the levers and it telescopes. Night and day compared to the clunky poles and floor sockets.

We leave TN 30 June to pick up TA. The pedestal is already in the truck ready to make the trip.

Another advantage, IMO, is the ability to rotate the table 360 degrees making it easier to slide into the bench seats. If I weren't considering making the front a permanite bed I'd put one up there too.

Definitely. The rotation is a huge plus.

Dick & Joanne,
So excited for you! Safe travels out there! We'll be following you exactly 2 months later! The pedestal is going to be great!
