LP/CO detector failure

Our LP/CO detector has decided to go off in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. It did this a couple of times over several days. It happended before last August, but was silent until this last week.

There was no flame as we are hooked up (here in Mesa AZ). There was no smell of LP. And the blinking green light is not explained in the manual as one of the expected alarms.

Yesterday I found one, and $136.00 later I replaced it. Unlike the night before last, I got a really good night sleep.

These need to be replaced every 5 years and the guy at Camping World said if you keep the trailer plugged in and the battery connected, they can wear out sooner. We do that.

RickM (prior owner) had a switch installed right above the detector that can turn it off so I think I might start doing that when we are storing the trailer plugged in along side the house.

Thoughts?

A low house battery will also set off the alarm, did you check that?

While I am unconvinced by most of these "regular replacement" suggestions, in this case I think it makes sense.

As long as the propane is shut off at the tank during storage, and you are sure you will turn the detector power back on (use a checklist? connect something you'll notice to the same shutoff?) then I think this is a good idea.

Good thinking, but...

With shore power on, the converter/charger should have been delivering lots of voltage, regardless of the battery state of charge.

That and our house batteries are brand new. Just replaced them before the trip.

We have been dry camping over the last two weeks on solar and I have been watching the batteries, they are more than adequate for anything we have done including watching Satellite TV off the inverter at night.

(and BTW, the propane is turned off when stored next to the house.)
