Manual awning

Are there instructions somewhere for returning the awning to a closed position?

Here's a youtube showing how to operate your awning opening and closing.

And here's another on an Escape trailer.

Note that some awnings do not retract freely and need a little help to get started rolling back.

That's mine.

Freaks me out every time as my last one would retract as soon as the toggle switch was flipped.

I prefer it to need a little help.

What year and size is your trailer? I have a 2017 17B Escape, and my manual awning is unlike the ones in the videos posted. I have different support arms, and the awning rolls up into a hard case.... If mine might be like yours, I can happily check my files for what useful info I might be able to provide...

Susan,
Your awning should be mfd. by Carefree of Colorado. On one of the arms will be a mfr's label, listing the Model, Serial Number, and maybe other identifier numbers. Also, on the roller or hard case, should be another mfr's label, with more identifying stuff. This may help in seeking help on this forum.
Edit: I did a forum search and found some photos of 2017 models. It appears that a Dometic brand awning was used for a time. It's got to have a Name and Model name/number somewhere!!

We have 2015 E17, with a Carefree "Fiesta" manual awning. Our awning itself rolls up around the tube connected to the arms. The vertical arms are about the same as video #2, EXCEPT that the bottom portion of each is curved into the fitting on the shorter E17 trailer body.

Yes I have a Carefree - Thank you - I wasn't seeking advice...Was just saying mine is not like the ones in the videos...so... if FlyFsher 70!'s is more like mine... If the videos are not like what he has, I'd gladly check my files for the instructions and/or add my two cents.

But thanks, anyhow

In the install manual for the carefree there used to be a section regarding setting the tension on the awning roller. There are numerous caution about how dangerous the tension spring can be if the instruction aren’t clearly followed. I read them once and don’t have a copy but I think it’s possible to adjust that roller tension if it bothers you. After 11 years ours needs a little “encouragement” but not enough to bother us. Best of luck if you decide to work on it.

We recently replaced our awning fabric and resetting the tension springs (on ours there is one at each end) was the trickiest part. But, it’s doable and we tweaked it a little (put on a couple more turns) to get it to roll up more smoothly.
