I only replaced the cover, but it's easiest doing it from inside the trailer. You do at one point need to reach out on the roof and lift off the whole assm. I'm taking it you do not need to replace everything, if you do you'll need to R&R the sealant, up on the roof...
Here's the instructions for the lid, it includes taking out the guts of the unit.
Might try calling Airxcel tech support and see if they instructions to remove just the parts you need to replace. You'd get to see what it entails.
