The cabinet still has a 120V outlet in it even if you don't get the microwave?
I heard back from Joldie at ETI who said if we don't want the optional microwave:
" A microwave ready cabinet is a standard feature of the 21’ Escape, so yes the 120v outlet will be installed in the cabinet and it will have a cabinet door put on it."

And today Joldie also let me know that the internal dimensions of the 21' microwave cabinet is 18 ˝”w x 13”d x 11 ˝”h I do not know if this is the same for other trailers,

Wonder if there is cabinet door trim/frame that reduces those dimensions or if that is the actual opening? Did she happen to say?

That I don't know Dave. From the pictures at ETI it looks like the opening is full size - no lip.

I believe the opening is the same, microwave or door. They do solidly fasten the microwave leaving room around it to ventilate.

Internal dimensions are 20 1/4" wide x 15 1/2" high x 19" deep. This is for the new 21'. There is angle at the back at the top from the roof that reduces the height/depth a little.

My bigest fear is proper air circulation and the heat close to the sides of the cabinets. The manuals say that there should be 3" of room on sides and back.

There are plenty of small 600-700 microwaves that will fit into that space on the 21 .
This is exactly what I did. On my trip back home after picking up my Escape 21 I stopped at a Walmart and bought a $50 microwave for the wired cabinet space. It has shaken around in there for 15,000+ miles and still works. Maybe 20k miles-- I haven't added up lately.

We saw Dave and Linda's new microwave convection put below their range. It looks great. I am just not good at bending.

I finished the microwave install on my 21'. Running the 950 watt microwave on high (popping popcorn), I measured the temperature along the sides, bottom and top of the microwave using a laser thermometer. Only one spot on the bottom reached 160 deg with the rest running around 80 deg. No problem there. Oh, air was flowing in from the bottom gap and flowing out the top gap as expected. Below is a picture of the installed microwave.

Thanks for all your info. It really sounds nice.

When traveling I wedge a piece of styrofoam packing in the space above my microwave in order to hold it in place. I remove it when I'm camped. However, there are plastic clips available for this purpose, to secure a microwave in a cabinet in an RV. Unfortunately I don't remember where I saw them.

inverters

ETI puts in a go pro 1500 pure sign inverter . Do we really need a pure sign to run the microwave 700 watt ? my wife will use it for a hair dryer and maybe to run a tv ?

Tom, what did you use to secure the microwave in the cabinet?

I used two sections of aluminum angle screwed to the bottom sides of the microwave and industrial 10# Velcro on the angle pieces to attach it to the bottom of microwave cabinet.

I could of drilled holes through the cabinet but didn't feel it was necessary as I have had good success with the Velcro in the past.

Another microwave with inverter technology that can fit into 21C's microwave cabinet

I am reviving this thread with an update to folks who want to have a microwave with inverter technology in their trailer. LG's 0.9 cu ft microwave model LMC0975ST will fit into 21C's microwave cabinet, with a small adjustment.

Don't believe BB's product width # of 18 inches, it's wrong. LG's own webpage says the product width is 18.5", and 21C's microwave cabinet opening width is also 18.5". But here's the kicker, LG's own webpage # is wrong too. I know it because I went to BB and measured the demo product, and on the product package box and in its owner's manual the width is 18 3/4". Its actual width is just shy of 18 3/4" by a hair.

The small adjustment: So I trimmed off 1/4" from the left side of the microwave cabinet opening frame (the door hinges side), cleaned it up and repainted it so it all works now and looks no different if you don't look hard for that trimmed off 1/4" strip. With the microwave in its place there is just about an inch of space on both sides and about 1 1/4" on the top.

Hope it's helpful to some folks on this forum.

Is that enough airspace for using the microwave?

I would think so. I am using Tom's test as support since his microwave is specced a bit more powerful than this one (this one is 1000w) and that one is slightly wider too but Tom said his temperature sensor test showed the exhaust air is cool enough.

That is the microwave I installed a couple of years ago. I have been happy with it. Like you, I had to alter the opening a bit
