I am looking at buying a used Escape and need to know if an air conditioner and the gaucho bunk can be added? If not are there alternatives?

Both the air conditioner and the gaucho bunk utilize blocks that are fiber-glassed in place during the build. Blocks are needed for strength.

Although you can't easily add a roof AC, you should be able to add a wall mounted AC above the refrigerator. This would require a roof vent for the condensor coil cooling air and a wall vent above the exisiting upper refer vent for the exhaust.

The AC cabinet would have to be lined with fiberglass and a drain line added, and you would lose some storage space.

You could add the goucho supports but you'd need to replace some of the wall liner after you finish fiberglassing in the supports.

I assume the bathroom wall and wardrobe cabinets are strong enough to support the upper bunk support rails, but Reace can guide you on that.

I would consider a trip to Chilliwack to have the factory add the goucho, if they are so inclined.

I love our goucho, hope you can figure it out.

I can recall a posting by Reace which said that it is possible to retrofit an air conditioner on all recent Escape trailers. I was not able to find the posting, but you could contact Escape (info@escapetrailer.com) to find out.

On our not yet hatched 17b, pre-prepping for a future roof mount AC was $250. I believe this included strengthening the structure and wiring so that we could add the AC at a future date. Generally it seems, from the posts on this forum, AC is not really needed unless you are camping way south. As most of our camping is without electric plug-in, we thought that it could wait until we head towards much warmer climates.

I am going to Chilliwack next week and I was going to ask Reace about pre-prepping for the gaucho as well 'cuz we don't want/need it now but who knows in the future.

As we went nuts with the other options, we needed to cut back somewhere.

Iit is possible with any trailer to add A/C, an auxiliary fiberglass shroud is used to stiffen the roof.

I had my unit prepped for a future gaucho bunk. It cost $25 and simply means some wood supports are glassed into the mold very early in the process. If you look hard you can see them behind the ensolite wall covering.
