New to trailers what’s your best advice

Sometimes I think everyone should have to own a popup or a sticky for several years first so that they will really appreciate an Escape If our Escape had been our first trailer I'm not sure we would ever have truly appreciated how wonderful it is!

as an alternative to switching the red wire, you can pop the faceplate off when you're not using the stereo and are on battery power.

For me, "getting out of line" means swinging outside of where I want to go. In line means getting in line behind my truck. I try to mentally draw a line that I want my wheels to follow and try to keep them on that line. Sometimes I actually put down something to mark the line, like pine cones or leaves.

It's been said to get out and look around when backing. But don't just look behind your trailer, look up also. If you have a spotter who gets out to guide you while backing, remind them to look up as well. My wife didn't look up on the day I first backed our initial travel trailer (a 23 footer) into the side yard, and I mashed the corner of the rain gutter with the drain spout.


Loessn, I can't resist asking: engine torque or lug nut torque? (as if I didn't know better!)

I still don't get it, if I need to back around a bend or corner. What then is out of line?
With my hand on the bottom of the wheel, if I need the trailer to go around a bend to the left, I move my hand to the left. Nothing simpler.

That's advice I received from a buddy who left his cook kit behind, up in a tree, to protect it from bears, on the start of a long, remote, Canadian canoe trip. They had food, but were eating it with their fingers and cooking in tin cans.


I try and take it to heart. And Go slow is a sound suggestion.

Tell me more Mars, I tried a Bluetooth transmitter on my television and found a delay in the audio. It was very annoying. Is there something I am doing wrong or could do differently?

Yeah, I use wired audio for video.

Audio and video have to be sync’d. Specific equipment for this will have an adjustable delay for this purpose. There will be digital latency. For consumer use, there is wireless HDMI, but a wired connection is always more reliable.

I’m using the exact one Mars is using on our TV (from bed to dinette on 19) and it has worked great.
Maybe it is the unit you bought as there are lots of variations in BT products.
Could be the distance is too far for your unit to transmit, or it doesn’t have enough transmission power. Are there any kind of adjustments on the unit to increase the signal?

I suggest doing a last walk around before you pull out each time. Also when you leave for your first time, stop at the first safe opportunity, rest area?, and do a walk around check to look for anything that has come loose. Such as hatch clips outside, esp the front window, adjust tow chains if needed, and do the same inside. It's better to catch the cabinet doors that come open after 5 miles than at the end of a long day towing. Leave twice the space you think you need when stopping.

I don't think distance is the problem, we place the television on the counter so likely less than 10 feet.
I wonder if it might be my bluetooth speaker? Here is the one I have.

We are in the process of moving and I think I have packed the transmitter up already. Hopefully I find it once the move is over and will try it again.

Could you elaborate on the problems of running the fridge on 12v while driving-also do you know if this would apply to the compressor fridge.
I’m planning on powering it with the two solar panels and at least two lithium batteries.

We are still compiling our list of options and having an oven is questionable. Wow much if any does everyone use theirs? The microwave would appear to suffice if we have a good grill.
