Question NSR bike rack

Does anyone uses a North Shore bike rack on a 5.0? I’m considering buying a NSR 4-bike rack but I’m worried about it being trailer rated or not? Would it go over the spare tire? Would the bike wheels hit the back of the trailer? Thank you.

I would first confirm that it is approved for use on a trailer. Maybe they have a technical/service line you can call . Given that the receiver is on the back of the trailer, it is at a place that gets the most bounce of the whole unit. Putting four bikes on might also be a bit of an issue, especially if they add a bunch of weight that extends a ways out from the receiver.

We have that exact rack on a 19. I set it up as per the instructions as far as installing the base in the forward two holes. It looked like plenty of clearance when set at the furthest tilt position and pushed forward by hand but there clearly is a lot of flex in the trailer frame combined with the slight play in the rack pin holes. It managed to just touch the rear window while towing and the grit on the tire scratched the glass. Keep in mind I drive pretty conservatively and carry no more than two bikes due to the weight rating of the trailer hitch. I am currently trying to decide if a tray style rack is a better option than setting the NS rack back another hole in it's hitch tube thereby hanging the weight further out. Another option I am considering is using bolts and washers instead of the pins to reduce movement in the rack pivots.

It was a 26' wheel bike with a six inch travel fork that I had on the rack. Most bikes now are moving to 27.5 and even 29" wheels

There is something on their site regarding RV use not being warrantable but I am not sure why that would be since people shuttle downhill bikes up logging roads with these racks. It is really well built and works great for regular use.

Update on NS rack. I have replaced the pivot pins with nuts and bolts. Also, added a hitch tightener. The rack now is so solid that it is like an extension of the trailer frame. I feel like it’s a good rack option with these additions.

I believe it is 54lb but take a look at their website all the weights are listed there

Thanks. I just checked it out. They say 50lbs for the 4 bike. I like them but i would not want 4 bikes on the back of my trailer. We put the bikes in the truck bed either hanging over the tailgate with a pad or in the box (canopy on) with a fork mount. The latter takes a bit of fiddling but the bikes are out of the weather and i feel they are a little more secure. Ive used other peoples NS racks shuttling but i wouldn’t want one on my trailer - its a lot of weight back there - throw on a couple of e bikes and your over 150lbs

Agreed, I definitely have concerns with weight back there but feel better that it no longer bounces around. We only carry two 30lb bikes on the trailer and two on the roof. It is really handy to have the NS rack to swap to the tow vehicle when riding trails. I have attached a picture for those curious about the clearance.

I am unable to get a good photo so I added a note to the instructions. I replaced the D-handle pins with matching hex bolts and lock nuts from the hardware store. The upper D-handle hole will require spacers under the pivot plate to space correctly, I am currently using thin metal washers. Otherwise the rack is assembled exactly as shown in the instructions. The hitch tightener which is probably the most important item to reduce bounce can be found at Lordco, Amazon etc.
