Open door holder broke
The plastic receiver for the open door holder broke. The replacement is easy to find, but own my 19, the holder is riveted in place. Anyone have experience removing rivets in door and replacing with screws?

Pop rivets are usually in a 1/8 or 3/8 inch hole. I would think that yours would be 3/8 and require a 3/8 drill bit to remove. The idea is to drill it out lightly...to much pressure can jam the drill in the pop rivet and make it spin in the hole...then your hooped if you can not hold it from spinning. Good luck!

Pop rivets
The rivets I’ve drilled out have been 3/16. 3/8 is a pretty big bit. Use a sharp bit, put a piece of tape on the bit so you don’t go too deep, and go slow. Either aluminum curly ques will come up the bit, or fall inside the door. Take a needle nose plier and pull the remainder out slowly. Put some masking tape around the rivet so you don’t garf up the door finish. You can do it, take your time.

When I replaced the holder I used pop rivets and it worked fine. However, when drilling out the old rivets don't use 3/8. See if a 1/8 bit will work and go to 3/16 if necessary. You only need to drill through the core of the rivets, not the whole head.

Our "receiver" didn't break, but our "arm" did. We came up with an easy solution that doesn't involve complete replacement. I'll post it here since it is a related item. Our solution isn't like new, but it works well. We bought some clear plastic tubing that happened to have the exact inside dimension we needed and put the broken parts back together inside the tubing. It is a tight fit that doesn't pull apart and has functioned fine for us for a couple of years now.

When I replaced mine with a longer holder, I screwed out the rivet tops but left the rivet base and used bolts to reattach the new holder utilizing the old rivet base.here is my three with pictures http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f8...ows-10791.html
