Outside LED Light Strip

I ordered the optional LED light strip that fits inside the awning enclosure on my 2017 nineteen footer to provide additional outside light. It worked for a year, but now it won't turn on. It is controlled by a remote that turns it on and off and adjusts the brightness. There is no manual that came for this item, and it is not mentioned in the Dometic power awning manual. I replaced the battery in the remote, but that did not do the trick. I checked all fuses and they are fine. Does anyone know who manufactures this thing (it has no name on the remote), or have a suggestion for further troubleshooting?

That's definitely "Plan B" and thanks. May actually be covered by 2 year warrenty.

You could check for voltage along the circuit too to see where the circuit is open. This will tell you if it is the supply, the remote, or the strip itself at fault.

Yes, I found no voltage at the connector to the strip right where the wire emerges from the trailer and heads to the strip, but I don't know if it is supposed to be live all the time there or alternatively the remote switch activates a switch somewhere else that supplies it. It disappears into the trailer top and I have no idea of the location of the unit that the remote activates.

At least you have proven the LED strip is good, and unless you can access the wires inside further tracing might be tough. Is not the controller/receiver for the lights accessible?

Yeah, if I had any idea where the receiver was, or even looked like, I could check it out, but no idea.

The receiver unit is most likely located in the small dead space in one of the passenger side upper cabinet corners where they meet the front or rear walls. Probably the rear corner. Not easy to get to.

Please excuse me for asking, but do you have the on/off wall switch for awning power turned on?

The awning and awning led are independent of one another, ie you can have the light on while the awning is closed or in use.

Jim, yes, the awning LED strip can be on or off whether the awning in in or out. However, neither the LED light strip or the awning will work when the on/off wall switch is in the off position.

I did not know that, but it can be easily verified by an owner. Until next month, that is not me....

I have the electric awning with LED light strip. I tested it before I posted. Wall switch must be on before either or both LED light strip or awning can be operated.

They must have made yours differently than mine. My awning and LED light strip are completely independent. Just verified.

That was the way my 2016 E19 was also...

Another reason I would have ZERO interest in the power awning and the pre-installed LED. I think their design is to make life easier but sure seems to me to cause more frustration then value. Its camping so I will live by the saying 'keep it simple.'
I hope you get it figured out, great group of people here to help figure it out that's for sure .

Enjoy the journey.

So a tent then?

Steve, the frustration with the awning itself seems to come more from those who have not used one, than from those who have. As far as the light strip goes, something like it failing is a pretty easy fix if needed.

You do have a good point though. How simple to folks want to keep things? Heck, putting up a tarp was our only outdoor shelter for many, many years.

Yes this is the firs thread I remember seeing about an issue with the LED light strip, but if its a pretty easy fix as you say why is someone having to ask any clue how to fix?

Also I remember many threads about people having issues with the automatic awning.

But to each his own I say, glad Escape gives everyone all these options.

As far as tent, did that for MANY years and better 1/2 said she wanted something with a bathroom not involving a tree so......... Roadtrek, Casita, Escape, hope to be the last trailer we ever buy.

Enjoy the journey.

Ours (2017 19') is wired independently to the awning switch as well. Although I thought it would make more sense that it's wired to the awning switch since the light strip is not visible when the awning is closed anyway..
