Piece that holds door open
Hi All,
The plastic piece that holds the door open was sticking out and someone walked by and accidentally broke it off. Any suggestions on fixing, or does it need replacing?

You can use epoxy, but I'd probably just replace it. You'll need a rivet gun. Drill out the old rivets, remove, rivet in the new one.

If you can find a piece of PVC or ABS plastic tubing with the right inside diameter, you could glue both pieces into the piece of tubing with common plumbing cement. Try shopping online or a hobby shop.

I like this idea , but there is not enough sticking out to do the tubing. Probably going to have to replace, but was hoping not to, because I think that means having to drill new holes?

JB Weld would probably fix it, but you'll always see where it was fixed. Maybe now is the time to see how well you do with a rivet gun? It's not hard, I promise you and you can get a replacement piece cheap. Replacing it will be many times more reliable than trying to fix it, probably almost as fast, and almost certainly less hassle... but you do need to borrow or buy a rivet tool. There's no need to pay more than CA$20 or US$10 for the tool.

You remove the original rivets by using a drill to take their heads off, and choose a replacement part that has the same base so you can re-use the original holes in the body.
I'm not a fan of rivets, but dealing with them is part of the reality of maintaining a moulded fiberglass travel trailer.

Right. You'll also need four 3/16" pop rivets to attach the new one, same holes.

Thanks everyone, I thought I was going to have to drill new holes. I appreciate your help. I will order a new door piece and tool tomorrow! And hire someone to replace it for me ;-)

I often buy cheap, cheap tools! Love Harbor Freight screwdrivers... great for stirring paint 
BUT, I made the mistake of buying a cheapo rivet gun (Scamp owner lots of rivets). That dang gun hurt my hand and the rivets I shot were... less than stellar. Fast forward, I bought a better gun. While not as good as someone else doing the work for me, I was much, much happier with the results. Some tools are worth paying more for.... YMMV
