Por favor....please

Does anyone have an interior picture of their 21 Escape showing the locale of the rear upper awning support, I'm getting ready to drill an antenna hole and want to miss the wooden blocks that ETI installs for awning support. I need to know the size of the block approximately, thanking anyone in advance if they can find/post such a picture.

Jim,

No support block visible from the interior. Must be behind the vinyl (above, and about mid-way along, the rear curbside window.. Can't feel the block from the interior. May be embedded within the fiberglass mats (which would make sense) that ETI installed during the layup (although, intuitively, one would expect to feel some irregularity That would account for the blocking). Location might be discernible if you pierce the vinyl. Inspection done after a long dinner with copious amount of wine. Thus, no guarantees offered.

Glenn

P.S. What precludes you from discerning the location of the block on your own 21?

The same thing you ran into, not being able to feel it thru the vinyl, I was hoping someone may have some pictures from their build showing the unfinished interior, thanks for trying though.
Enjoying your camper?

Don't know if it's the same, but here's what I have on the 5.0TA. A bit hard to see the block due to low resolution. I can just feel the forward edge of the block about 8" from the back of the curb side cabinet over the dinette. Through the foam it feels like about a 1/2" protrusion. Good luck

Thanks Bob, that will help me. If I hit wood, I'll just have to use a longer bolt or plug the hole and go outside the awning. I was hoping to install the antenna within the awning space and awning arm, but may have to install it rearward. I have removed the mounting tabs from within the attachment, seen here in order to make the hole a lot smaller, about the size of the bolt only. But now fear that without the tabs, wind may shift the antenna, thereby making that space between the arm and awning ideal.

I assume that this is the Dual MAR16W Marine Flexible Mast AM/FM Antenna sold through Amazon.
Jim, judging from a randomly found post about this antenna, and material in the Amazon Q&A, I suspect that the antenna needs a ground plane, which is expected to be a metal vehicle body. I hope it works with the fiberglass Escape shell.

Well if it works on fiberglass boats, why not a fg trailer? ETI installs them also. Perhaps the ground is in the cable? Maybe I better do some research on this?

I'm not sure that it works on fiberglass boats - there are lots of metal boats, and at least some people use different designs on fiberglass boats due to the ground plane issue.

If it works for other Escapes, then no problem - perhaps the foil of the insulation is enough of a ground plane, although the ground conductor of the cable really should connect to the foil for that to work properly.

I think I would hook it up to a cable, run the cable in a window, temporarily place the antenna in about the target area, and see how well it works... before drilling the hole.

Indeed we are, Jim. In Maine now. Downeast where Verizon connectivity is rumored to exist. Out for a month. Glad to see you got some good info on the support.
