I think storing inside a building helps. I picked up regular gas leak detection soap bottle, it’s nice to use with the dauber and bubbles up nicely if there’s a leak. Always check.

I bought the Marshall regulator (based on forum members recommendations) as the second replacement. I'm now on my third in six years. Check the pig tails every single time you refill a bottle. It's easy. I found once they start cracking, they go fast.

Just ordered a set of the stainless braided pigtails to try. May or may not last any longer, but they look cool.

As we discussed when the photo included in this post was first posted, in the thread http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f9...sed-15786.html, the descriptions are misleading. The "1/2 inch" fitting is really 1/4" NPT, and the "reducer" is really a pipe thread to inverted flare adapter. This photo also from Myron in that older thread, shows the end of the hose (with 1/4" inverted flare fitting) and the adapter screwed into the 1/4" NPT port of the regulator:

The text on that image is incorrect: the adapter is not a reducer and there is no 1/2" thread.

Dave what I replaced with . Another case you get what you pay for . Too important to ever go cheap . Interested in the life span of the stainless too. But have good luck with Mr. Heater . Pat

3 years ago I built a custom barbeque stand for 2 big old aluminum barbeque bodies from the 1970's. I needed custom hoses. I checked Amazon, but my local Hose Headquarters (hydraulic supplies) had them made for about 75% of Amazons price. Certified and Guaranteed for propane.

I notice that those have a 1/4" inverted flare fitting for the regulator end, which is what I would expect and what I would want; this works with a regulator having the adapters left screwed into it.

Did a post mortem on the cracked pigtails. Cracks went half way to the reinforcing and were just starting to penetrate it in a few spots.

I also note there's no tape or dope on the NPT threads into the regulator body.

there should NOT be any tape or dope on the pigtail 1/4" inverse flare fitting, however.

I just replaced my pigtails and regulator... I chose to get made in USA Marshall Excelsior pigtails and regulator. I don't trust Chineseum rubber from brands like 'Shinestar". Unluckly, Marshall only has 15" pigtails with stainless, the 10-12" ones are not stainless, and the 15's are just too long for our side by side dual tank configuration.

Looking to replace my propane pigtails. I found one cracked and the other starting to. To continue camping I wound up buying one 15 inch and one 24 inch and wish to get something that ,hopefully, will work longer. How did they work out? Any problems with then being shorter? Thanks.

Question - How do you tell when the internal hose is cracking with a stainless steel braided hose?

Okay, I'm finally noticing some cracks on the hoses. I learned that the original Fairview pigtails are rubber. Seems like thermoplastic is a step up. So, the Marshall looks good from that angle.

The one question I have is about the flow. The original pigtails have a GREEN fitting and Fairview considers that their high flow. The MER425-12 is listed as standard flow in the Marshall catalog and their high flow has RED fitting. I don't think we would want less flow than what we currently get - we have a Dickinson stove and also run a Weber Q1200 off the external connection. Can anyone shed some light on whether the color is a standard of any kind?

high flow is for some serious BTUs. the standard flow stuff can deal with 4-6X more BTUs than everything in our trailers turned on at once.

edit: yeah, the red pigtails are for 400,000 BTUs/hour. the Marshall green ones are for 200,000 BTU.

a Q1200 is 8500 BTU on high. the furnace in your trailer is probably around 12000 BTU.

I just replaced mine with some like this, the 90 degree fitting reduces the stress on the line.
