Propane tank issue

A little help please...

On our way to the Escape Customer Appreciation Rally in Osoyoos!

So, we are in Casper, Wyoming, elevation 5,118 ft, settling in for the night. Our propane tank was switched over about 3 weeks ago and and we really have been on full hookups two of those three weeks.

Last night, I awoke to hear the furnace struggling to fire up. I eventually turned the thermostat off.

This morning, I went outside and switched the propane tanks and the furnace fired up immediately.

I stopped at a propane station to refill my “empty tank”. The tank felt kind of heavy when I took it down and the attendant said she only put in 1.5 lbs.

So...there was still plenty of propane in the tank; however, it was not enough to fire up the furnace.

Any ideas?

All I can suggest is put the tanks back and open the valves slowly. If that doesn't work, replace the regulator.

My guess would be that Glenn's theory is correct, and the excess flow valve in the hose connected to that tank had tripped, and needed to be reset. If a tank is full the only way it can be the problem with flow would be if its own valve failed (such as the float-operated Overfill Prevention Device valve sticking closed), and I've never heard of that.

Of course, it's also possible, if the propane had not be used for anything at all before this problem, that the hand valve on that tank was simply closed.

Also you went from warm weather to cold and there could have been some ice/moister in the propane line that froze up.
